charles de gaulle airport terminal

Since the terminal collapse earlier this year at Charles de Gaulle airport. Can a Air France traveler share their experience.
I've heard that Air France passengers have been shuttled by bus onto the tarmac to board and debark planes.

m_kingdom2 Jul 15th, 2004 11:18 AM

The tragedy in having to use a bus is?

BigRuss Jul 15th, 2004 12:44 PM

Shuttle buses that take passengers out on the tarmac to board their planes are not uncommon in European airports; therefore your premise is irrelevant.

Gretchen Jul 15th, 2004 01:19 PM

As is said, it isn't that uncommon. We had to take one when flying Continental last time to CDG. It isn't a big deal.

ira Jul 15th, 2004 01:22 PM

Gee,

I remember when you walked out to the tarmac to board a DC3.

Underhill Jul 15th, 2004 01:45 PM

Going by bus to and from the plane was SOP when American Airlines still flew into Orly.

flanneruk Jul 15th, 2004 01:48 PM

What do you call those odd things they use at Dulles?

Oddly, no European whines about how horrid they are.

shellio Jul 15th, 2004 04:24 PM

Hey, snipperite simply asked whether it was the case that planes are being loaded from the tarmac. Nobody's whining or complaining. What's with the attitude?

StCirq Jul 15th, 2004 05:23 PM

They call them "people movers," flanneruck, which is, oddly, exactly what some people call those moving walkways inside airports.

snipperite has a valid question, though I'm not sure what his/her real concern is, as it isn't all that uncommon to have to go out to the tarmac to board a plane. Heck, in Morocco, they toss you off the plane onto the tarmac and you trudge across on foot to the terminal!

Christina Jul 15th, 2004 07:08 PM

I think you have to do that anyway, at CDG, if you depart from Terminal F. I have in the past, and it had nothing to do with terminal E.

janeg Jul 15th, 2004 07:24 PM

Well? I am waiting for an answer to Shellio's question. What is with the snotty replies? I expect it from mk2, but who are the rest of you piling on for no acceptable reason.

A full moon?

mark Jul 15th, 2004 11:57 PM

Hello All

The use of buses to shuttle people from the departure lounge to the aircraft is very common in europe.
The buses are actually provided by the ADP ( Aeroport de Paris )and are huge ( two bus loads will fill a regular plane )

The closure of terminal 2E caused initial unorganised chaos .
Day to day operations are now slowly returning to organised chaos with the main problem facing the ADP being the re - location of the staff that were based at terminal 2E.

Glad to see that nothing has changed on Fodors.

best regards

Mark

I haven't checked the calendar, but as a Psychiatric Nurse for 20 years, a full moon really does make a BIG difference.

Nice to hear from you Mark. Thank you for the information.

I was at CDG earlier this month...flying on Air France. Yes, you will have to board a bus to the plane.

As others have noted, this is common in many airports, and most likely would have been the case even if the terminal didn't collapse.
