"Amazing! Proposed trip is 2007 April. 3M should be able to find and buy traveller friendly tickets by then" GSteed
That's good to know. That week in April is school vacation for much of the US east coast. We usually travel to the Caribbean during that time and our experience has been that most flights are sold out by the holidays, including the shoulder days. If you manage to find a flight after that time, then you can be sure to pay through the nose. That probably isn't the case with the Europe destinations and I'll find many more options available to us, but I still like to shop early. All things considered, I'll avoid CDG if at all possible.

Ditto to everything said, especially Travelor 99 (I almost thought I wrote this myself). I was so appalled by the airport service and the airport layout that I wrote AF a letter. I did get a reply which they stated they were glad to hear from me. We too had a close connecting flight (45 min.) out of CDG airport but that was not the problem. The problem was getting to the gate. The signage was terrible and staff were not helpful, in fact rude. We too had to take a shuttle to the gate because we could not find the sign directing us to walk to the gate. The shuttle picked up and dropped off at many stops. The only reason we made our connecting flight was because the flight was delayed. I do have to say that the flight was great, and the staff on the plane were friendly and really pleasant. When I asked if they had green tea the steward said no but he would give me some of his personal stash. Wasn't that nice! All said and done we made each flight and most importantly, our luggage made it too.
