Character places To drink in Paris
I'm looking for recommendations for places to grab a drink in Paris. My criteria are that it be old and have some character and that it not cost an arm & leg (like most hotel bars.) Not interested in new and trendy. I can see that anywhere. Thanks.

This is a pretty old restaurant/bar with a zinc bar in the 11th - Des (or le?) Sans Culottes at 27 rue de Lappe.
I had dinner at this Hemingway haunt and wasn't in the bar, but it looked really cool and I'll go back. Not sure of prices.

Here's a few others I like:
Cafe Flores near St. Germain
La Palette (mentioned above) near St. Germain
Sounds like a fun theme for a visit to Paris! I might have to try it on my next trip.

I like Rosebud in the 14th:

I've always managed to meet some interesting characters to chat with there..
Also, I like Willi's Wine Bar; has much better food than Rosebud:

Aard, I think you would really like Bistrot Melac, 42 rue Leon Frot , 11th. Metro:Charonne -open daily except Sunday.
Jacques Melac's renown has him mentioned in guide books as far away as Japan. If you want local wine that puts the overrated Bordeaux and pricey Burgundies to shame you've come to the right place. Guess who rehabilitated le Cairanne, le Cotes-du-ventoux, and le Corbierres? A large sprawling grapevine grows over the doorway and the grapes are harvested every year with great ceremony!
Last trip I popped into Le Clown Bar at 114 rue Amelot also in 11th.
The interior is something you don't see every day. Clowns from the Cirque d'Hiver next door have been coming here for over 150 years to drink at the old zinc bar counter.
