Chantilly/Senlis
 

We are interested in taking a day trip to the chateau at Chantilly and also to spend a couple of hours in Senlis. Is there a shuttle between the chateau and the town or do we have to take a train to both?

There is a bus that runs from Chantilly to Senlis. No train station in Senlis...

The bus takes 15 to 20 minutes. In Senlis, it stops at the decommissioned train station. If I were you, I'd try to allow for at least one more hour in Senlis. It's a delightful town.

Rethinking that bus time. It's probably more like 25 minutes. You'll be slightly outside the historic center when the bus stops at the former train station in Senlis. I think, if you look up, you should be able to see the spire of the Gothic cathedral. Head that way and be ready for an architectural feast on the winding, cobbled streets of one of the loveliest towns in France.

Thanks for the help, Dave. It is much appreciated. It seems more feasible to take the bus to Senlis first and then come back and tour the chateau before leaving. Would you agree?

Either would work but I'd prefer to do your way, to wind up activity near the train back to Paris, and because some trains from the Gare du North to Chantilly are roughly times to connect with the bus to Chantilly. It used to be that one could only take a guided tour of the interior of the chateau on all but one day of the week, Saturday, I think, when you could visit unguided - and that the tour was only in French. But you could buy a good, small, soft-cover book in English about the chateau in the gift shop there.
