Channel Island Help

We've always wanted to go the Channel Islands but can never find an inexpensive mode of transport. Is there such a thing?
Has anyone spend time on any of the islands?
All suggestions are welcome

Transport ie: the Bus service on Guernsey is dirt cheap and goes everywhere. Car hire is a complete waste of time & money.
Day trips to Jersey & other islands are easy.
Where is your starting point?

The islands are a very expensive place, and moreso on weekends. If your schedule is flexible, you can go out on a Thursday and back on Tuesday for the same transportation + lodging as a Friday-Monday break, because both the ferry and airlines jack up the weekend tariff by 400%.

The cheapest transport I know of is a day trip from St-Malo on Condor.

Yes Robespierre, the Condor ferry is the way we went from St.Malo to Guernsey. After our 10 days or so we took the Flybe to Exeter and continued with our trip to Cornwall.
The hotels were the most expensive thing on our stay.
Everything beyond South Africa is prohibitively expensive for us because of our weak Rand.

What places are you folks comparing the prices on the Islands to?

I visited Jersey 4 years ago. Compared to London things were pretty reasonable.

Just comparing it to our poor Rand-British Pound/US dollar exchange rate.
When you're so far away from the USA/British/Euro comparisons it's almost laughable when we actually consider a holiday in Europe or elsewhere in the world except Africa.
BUT, WE DO! Why? Because the CULTURE is there, just like Mt. Everest is there.
Hope you go travelrene! Those little islands are lovely (& my investment broker lives there, ha!ha!ha! all the way to the bank).

Compared to London, anywhere seems reasonable. ;)

Actually, we moved from our $60 PriceLine Thistle in London to the Pomme d'Or in St. Helier at £108 last September.

Actually, that's a wee bit of an exaggeration - we got three nights for £216 because it was off-season. But the regular price of $200 for a very minimal double did seem a little steep.

I was thinking of the cheapest transport from England/France to one of the islands. Is Flybe the best way? From an earlier thread it sounded like flying might work, but it was confusing. The ferry seems expensive compared to the Ryanair flights from London to other places. Also, has anyone gone to Sark?
