Changing trains at Brussels Midi
We are scheduled for a 10 minute train change at Brussels Midi station to get from the
TVG train coming from Lyon to a THALYS train continuing to Amsterdam. I know the two systems share some platforms but is 10m minutes OK? Has anyone done that particular train change? |
It should be enough time, but check the platforms where you will be arriving, and where the Thalys departs.
The belgian rail site is www.nmbs.be. I have changed a few times at Brussels Midi between Eurostar and a local train, and 10 minutes was plenty (and from Eurostar, it's a longer walk). |
That is IF the TGV train is on time and it is not unusual IME for it to be 10 minutes or so late - why schedule such a short tranit time if you have non-refundable non-changeable tickets on Thalys?
If you miss the Thalys you have booked then eschew the Thalys and hop IN trains Brussels to Amsterdam as they have a flat fare - walk up ticket on Thalys - cheaper fares are generally non-changeable I believe - walk-up fares can be dauntingly steep. 10 minutes normally would be more than enough - as the various non-Eurostar train platforms are clustered together.
