Changing $$ to Euros
 

I will be arriving in Naples Capodichino Airport on May 28 and will be using Limousine Sorrento Renato Cuomo to drive us to Amalfi. In his confirmation Renato said that payment will be in cash at the end of the trip. I was hoping that I could exchange my dollars at a bank in Amalfi the day after we arrived but I will have to have at least 150 euros the day that I arrive. Is there an exchange booth in the airport? If their rates are competitive, should I exchange more than I need the first day or two?

There are exchange booths at every airport I have been in, but you get a better rate of exchange by using your ATM card. There are ATMs at airports as well. I only get as much as I need for a day or two each time I go to the ATM.

I second what Nikki says. Don't take US$ cash to Italy (Other than what you might want to use enroute at your US airport). Leave your money in your checking account back home and get euro from ATMs as needed. You can get enough to pay the limo driver from an ATM at Naples airport.

In fact, just to be sure, get a few Euros at your point of departure in the US--maybe $200 worth. And certainly plan to use and ATM rather than bank exchanges. Be sure your ATM card is connected to a checking account--not savings.

If all else fails, the limo drive will stop by a functioning ATM for you.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'll call my bank to be sure that my ATM card will work in Italy. I have a 4 digit password so that shouldn't be a problem. I am also calling my credit card company to tell them when I'll be in Italy.
I like the idea of asking the driver to stop for a minute to use an ATM.

hi, I just got my currency for italy. If you are a member of AAA you can get Euro currency from them. I takes about two days to arrive either at your home or the AAA office. I also need to pay the taxi/limo driver at Naples. I also got a AAA cash passport card. It is a new service from AAA. It is a ATM card. You deposit money into the account. You activate the card, assign a pin with it and use it on All ATM that have the Visa logo on them. You will receive Euros from the ATM's. The advantage is that the card is only good for the amount of money you deposit into it. It is a safeguard against fraud. You can add money to it or at the end of the trip,keep the money in it, use it at home or tranfer the balance back into your check/savings account.It doesn't expose your Debit card linked to your bank to fraud/lost etc. Hope this helps.
