I agree, TN.

The freaking blinking lights were bad enough.

Maybe they can add a bungi jump from the new platform.

Terrible, in my opinion!

Why would you mess with one of the most famous silhouettes in the world? It would be like Marilyn Monroe wearing a sweat suit.

I love the Marilyn Monroe in a sweatsuit metaphor (or is that a simile?) Anyway, call me crazy but I like it.

Does anyone know if this means they will close the viewing platform?
We are going in June and I know my DH and kids would love to go up and see from the platform.
The article does not say.

YUK, it does look like a space needle

what are all those poor souvenir sellers going to do???? and then won't all their outdated eiffel tower trinkets end up in the Paris landfill

I hoe this is one change that never gets off the ground

Just had to check the date - surely this is not meant to be released as news until next Tuesday? At least I hope it wasn't meant to be.

Well, I agree it's not terribly attractive, but the whole concept is right up there with about a gazillion architectural plans that totally ooked out people at first, but eventually ended up being just fine.

It's a Paris thing to shock people with strange architecture that sooner or later just becomes part of the landscape.

Since not a word of this has been breathed to the residents of France, this was clearly published a few days early.

I didn't think that people really still fell for April Fool jokes.

This article in The Telegraph makes it sound less certain that it will really happen:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...weiffel126.xml

" If approved, the platform would be bolted to the original tower 905ft above the ground, but would not require any permanent modification to the original structure. "

too bad it may be a joke

I thought the new top looked good

and if it can decrease long lines, overdue

Building the Tower upset locals as well don't forget and many wanted it torn down as scheduled at the end of the Exhibition or whatever

It looks like a spaceship landed on the top!

The Eiffel tower used to have a road under it and the postcards depicting the road were sold for many years after the change. Tourists apparently didn't notice...
This might be a more noticeable change!

I hope it's a hoax.

A spokesman for SETE explained in a statement that the plan to restructure the top of the tower was intended to increase the quality of access...

perhaps Parisians don't want their taxes to go up, either!

One comment I read said it looked like a giant toilet bowl brush!

Wht would they spend all that money if it's supposed to be temporary? Of course the Tour was supposed to be temporary also.
