Changing terminals at JFK

I am changing from a commuter Delta flight in Terminal 3 to a British Airways flight in Terminal 7. I have 1 hour and 40 minutes to make this change. I only have a carry-on.

My experience with changes between airlines/terminals at JFK pre-security procedures tells me that this change is tight but doable. However, the last time I flew internationally out of JFK the line to get into the terminal was huge. What do you guys think? I just checked, and to my surprise there isn't an earlier commuter flight.

Mariarosa, I think you are going to be fine.

Check out this website. I'm sure there is nothing for you to be alarmed about.

Best to you.

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/jfkframe.HTM

Thank you Eye Spy for the encouraging words. I will be wearing sprinting shoes!

There is a bus that travels between terminals. However, if your plane is not late and your bag is not too heavy (if so, consider using a cart), why not walk through the new Terminal 4, past Saarinen's TWA terminal 5, past I.M. Pei's terminal 6 then to terminal 7.

The TWA terminal's future is in doubt so see it while it's there. It won't be torn down but may be altered. You can't go inside because it's closed.

Also see the pleasant I.M. Pei designed terminal. Originally called the National Airlines terminal, then TWA (domestic), now Terminal 6 (occupied by Jet Blue, United, and America West). Walk slowly and it will take 20 minutes. Sprint and you might be able to get to the front door of the terminal in 10 minutes (and quicker than waiting for the bus).

It is do-able only if the Delta flight arrives on time, and if the security line at British Airways is not too long.

These are both very big "if's", especially if you are traveling during the winter, when there are often airline delays due to bad weather.

Also, even though you only have carryon luggage, you will still have to stand on the security line. I suggest you contact British Airways to find out how much time to allocate for this.

Thank you. Joyce, I am going to contact British Airways.

Frank, I had not thought about walking (or jogging) to Terminal 7. Is it really do-able? Anyone else think that it would take less time to walk than to wait for the bus?

Frank, I can't imagine TWA's terminal 5 being altered, it's so cool. I think I recognized it in "Catch Me If You Can".
