Changing seat for flight

I just got lost in American Airlines "press 1...." hell, so I thought I'd post my question here. Can I change an assigned seat on a flight now or do I have to wait until I get to the airport? Thanks!

If you have the seat confirmed, you will have to do it at the airport. Even though they can change them if they want to, you have to wait until you are there, to get them to do it, if there is seating available.
Just went through this myself booking a flight on Continental:)

Check their website. With Delta, I merely used my FF number + password to access my reservations. When accessed, my flight plan as well as my seat assignment are listed. I then click on seat assignment, view my seat and then change it for anyone not shown as taken.
Check to see of American has a similar setup.

If you're a frequent flyer try calling their # & doing it through them.

When you call American Airlines, if you say the word "agent" at anytime, you will bypass all the phone announcement messages, and go straight to a Customer Service Rep.

Thanks, everyone. I finally figured out how to do it online.

That's best way by far to do it.
Glad it worked out for you.
