Changing at Charles de Gaulle
On our flight to Genoa, Italy, we change planes in Paris. What is the procedure when changing from terminal 2E to2G? Do we have to claim our bags and go through customs or wil we do that in Genoa?
|
You go through a passport check but don't have to pick up your luggage as long as your on the same airline. If you booked through Air France your luggage goes straight through to your final destination.
|
Actually you don't have to use the same airline in order to avoid claiming your luggage and re-checking it. Most airlines have code share agreements so you can check your bag through to your final destination even if all flights are not with the same carrier. I've done this many times using multiple airlines at CDG and other airports around the world.
As mentioned above there will be a passport check and you will re-clear security. |
When changing from one terminal to another (flying the same airline) Do you go through security again with your carry-ons?
|
Every time I have connected through CDG I had to re-clear security, even flying the same airline.
|
Yes, you do the passport check and baggage check in two different areas.
Actually, I remembered that when Air France was on strike, we were ticketed by Air France but we and our luggage went through to our final destination on four different flights and one of them was United which is not a code share. So you can check it through all the way. |
Friendly amendment to P_M's post - it is not a code share (which is when airline sells seats on another airline's planes using their own flight number) but an interline baggage handling agreement that lets a passenger check through to final destination when flying multiple carriers. The airlines do not have to be code sharing in order to have an interline agreement. Most (but not all) of the major airlines have such an agreement.

Thanks so much. That clears things up for us.

I need to clear something up. I meant passport check and security with your carry-on. I used the wrong word saying baggage check.

A-HA, thank you Seamus. :-)
