We just came back 3 days ago. We were glad we hadn't booked a shuttle and were planning on using public transportation in from the airport. The day we flew in to Paris, CDG was completely shut down because of a strike. We landed at Beauvais, a teeny airport way outside of the city. We just took the shuttle bus into the city from there, and then transferred to the metro. With 1 wheeled suitcase each it wasn't too big or an ordeal. I have no idea what would have happened if we'd pre-booked a shuttle pickup. I'm guessing we'd have either been waiting for hours and hours or just given up our prepayment and taken the bus anyway. Leaving we'd done some shopping and didn't want to hassle with public transportation since we had more to carry. Our hotel had 2 different shuttle services they were recommending. Rate for both was 15E a person. So, apparently prices have increased. The convenience was nice though.

Topping for current interest.

Hello to all. My 2cents worth. We returned from Paris yesterday (28 March 02) and used Airport Shuttle (the blue vans with the yellow lettering). It worked well for us and it was nice to be able to use there 800 number from the states. They were friedly and spoke English very well. We called when we got in to CDG and they were there for us about 10 minutes after we got out the door. Our return to CDG pickup was arranged for 7 am and the van was there at 6:55 am. The ONLY hitch was they tried to charge us for our return to CDG even though I had already paid. When I showed him the paperwork that I had indeed paid he said he was sorry and left. I don't think they were trying to pull anything over on us, I think they just made a mistake. Make SURE that you have a copy of your 'paypal' receipt though. I'm not advocating one shuttle service over another, I'm just telling you of our experience. Best of luck!

Okay, I'm bringing this other "shuttle" thread up. Appears there's a bit of a shuttle controversy & downturn in quality of service. Other experiences from recent Paris visitors???

Just so you know Apr 4th, 2002 09:20 AM

I believe this needs to be kept current. We were very pleased with PariShuttle.

Airport Connection is what we used upon arrival. They were very plesant, including narrative of sites, $14/person. For departure we opted for a taxi. Airport Connection was booked. Our other option was to use the Hotel Du Champ de Mar's recommendation which is $22.5/person on this Easter Sunday.

Our taxi was $46. It was a Mercedes (as all are), and it went 120 mph. It was fun to take the round about at the Arch de Triumph, not at 120 mph. It was a good end to our visit.

Oh,

that was 46 euro for the taxi. Pardonnnn

Re:Experience with AIRPORT CONNECTION SHUTTLE(Grey Van) earlier this week.
Result: POOR
Reservation: 11:30 for a 2:30 Flight
Van Arrival: Almost Noon with 2 more groups to pick up in Paris
Final Decision: We took at taxi
The airport is approximately one hour by taxi to the city
Last year we took a taxi from CDG to I'lle St. Louis, and it costed about $44 with tip. We are taking a taxi again this year, because it is so easy. Also, we had time to look at some sites out the taxi window as we drove past, in the slower traffic lines.

Any recent experiences??? It is still significantly cheaper for a solo traveller to use the Shuttle vs. a cab. Anyone use the shuttle in the past 2 months? Thanks!

Yes, there's been a continuous debate about shuttles vs. cabs. I would choose a cab over a shuttle. For one person a shuttle can be only $15-$18 but it's not worth the potential hassles for me.

Thanks for the info, I was on the Blue Van web site last night thinking of booking with them. We (4 women, first trip to Paris) are arriving late on a Fri night and need transportation to the 20th. We are staying at an apartment of a friend,it is our first time and were not sure of "testing" the taxi/train/metro routine at that time of the night. Will wait for light of day to do that. I will try the Airport Connection listed below, but I also found a web site www.airportservice.com where you can put in your info and get quotes from several companies at different airports. A nice man from www.americanlimousines.com replied within a couple of hours and called me directly. Very nice American in Paris. A little pricey, but I understand that for four people we will need two taxi's. Maybe these will help someone, I know I am trying to resolve this issue before we get there. I am all for adventure, but no point in getting into a less than desirable area by mistake late at night when you don't speak the language. I think it is great everyone is so open with information to help others.

To DEBBIE-

I Just posted this info on another thread--but here goes again:

Message: Here are a few good ones:

[email protected]

2. Airport Shuttle, which is at the top of the france-hotels page: [email protected]

The 2nd one was a VAN and they ended up meeting us just outside of Customs Hall and took us straight to hotel---This is the one we used for a family of 5 in DEC.

Went to Paris over New Year's and used Paris Shuttle and had no problems. They were there when we arrived in Paris and picked us up for the return trip right on time. So for us, they were great.

I am also interested in transportation from CDG to Latin Quarter. We have four adults travelling -- can we take one taxi? My husband wants to take RER and metro but friends we are traveling with probably take more luggage and won't be happy with that option. We were considering airport-connection.com but not sure after reading the comments.
