Changed Austria/Germany itinerary. Whatcha think?
We have changed our itinerary, have hotels booked and some ideas for day trips.
Transportation by train or bus. Appreciate suggestions and thoughts for things to do, not to miss and if this is a good or bad itinerary. Many thanks. Itinerary: Lindau, Fuessen, Mittenwald,St.Wofgang and Landshut for a few days before flying home from Munich. |
I have been to all the places you mentioned several times. I love all of them, but my two favorites are St. Wolfgang and Mittenwald. I actually stay in St. Gilgen and visit St. Wolfgang. I just stayed in Mittenwald last month. It rained both days I was there, but I still love it. There is an ice cream shop right on the main road going from the train station to the pedestrian area. I spend a lot of time there.

Agree with scatcat about St. Gilgen and Mittenwald. Lindau is also very nice altho I think after visiting them we prefer Meersburg and Uberlingen.
Sounds like a great trip. |
scatcat and bettyk- Thanks for your helpful thoughts. I had a difficult time deciding whether to base in St. Wolfgang or Bad Ischl. Still think BI probably a better base since we have to use the train and other public transportation, but couldn't resist being on the lake.A bus ride back to BI will work for us I hope. Plan to go to St. Gilgen and Hallstatt as day trips from SW.Hope to find that ice cream shop also!!! Also, from Lindau plan on Meersburg and maybe Mainau as day trips.

You definitely need to go to Mainau if you like flowers. It's the most amazing place!
You can't go wrong with St. Wolfgang OR St. Gilgen. Each has its own charm. We will be staying in St. Gilgen again in September but will definitely spend time in St. Wolfgang too. Of course, we will have a car so we have a little more flexibility. I know you will have a great time. |
bettyk-Our trip is in September also. I have read some of your interesting trip reports and looked at your pics of some of the places we plan to go. Definitely inspiring. Thanks!!!!!

Glad you found them inspiring. Hopefully, you will enjoy these places as much as we do.
