Change in fare to Europe
 

What are your experiences with seeing a lower fare with an airline once you have booked and paid? Do any of the airlines work with you to give you the lower fare if you ask for it on economy fare tickets? USAirways? Continental? Just wondering what may or may not be possible.

too much hypothetical in your question to give a useful answer. Depends on lots of things like fare code, whether it is non-refundable/changeable, who you bought it from, etc etc etc . . . .

Each airline has its own policy. I can only speak for AA.

For domestic tix on AA, no refund unless you pay for the change fee (which is $100). Usually the drop in price of the ticket is less than change fee.

For international tix on AA, they do offer refund without a change fee. Some people reported getting a refund on the CC they charged. Some people reported getting a voucher for future use.

If you see a good fare, ask what the cancellation fee would be.

I have also gotten credits when the fare went down on AA International flights - JFK->CDG. They were the least expensive tickets to begin with. Both times they credited my credit card within a few days. And there was no charge for the credit. When you read the rules of the fare on the website, it does say $200 for change but I guess that is for a change in the date....

Once I was told I could get a credit with Air France if I went to their office with the ticket - back in the days of a paper ticket - but I waited too long and the fare went back up.

It certainly can't hurt to try!

On an international flight with AA, I was told I would be sent a voucher. Instead a couple days later the difference showed up on the CC I used. The call I made took only a few minutes and needless to say I was very pleased with their service.
