Chance meeting of Premier of Belarus in 1990 in New Orleans, LA: USA

My wife and I met Premier Vyacheslav F. Kebich in the lobby of a New Orleans hotel in September of 1990. The Premier was accompanied by a Mr. Valerie M. Schukin and and other associates. Premier Kebich invited us to attend a combination business and social function with him that evening. We all had a wonderful time in one of New Orleans exclusive clubs. The USSR was just begenning to reorganise at that time.
Premier Kebich was very excited about his countries future and was proudly flying the Belarus flag on the front of his lomosine. What is the status of Premier Kebich today?
What is the tourist environment of Belarus today?

I'm not familiar with the name you mentioned nor have I ever been to Belarus, but my sense of the country is that it very much still resembles the former Soviet Union in terms of its tourist amenities and facilities. That may or may not be a bad thing -- depending on your need for western comforts and your tolerance of Socialist Realism. I'm sure a trip there would be very interesting for sociological reasons.

No, this isn't really a travel related answer, but regarding your question about Kebich. Aleksandr Lukashenko was elected president of Belarus in 1994. He defeated Kebich 85% to 15%.

Hi, i'm from Minsk, capital of Belarus.
It's no messages and articles about Kebich. I really don't know where he is.
If you want to visit our country or any exUSSR republic, our tourism agency can help you. We are members of ASTA, PATA and RATA.
