Oh, please! To all the critics of the "waste of time" that walking on the Champs Elysees is! You would think that it's a half day excursion we're talking about!

Half day excursion or not, that's not the point. Claudia asked for opinions didn't she? Well, that's what everyone has given her so far.

Unlike most other parisian streets, the Champs Elysees area is not filthy. It can be quite interesting meeting locals and other foreign tourists at one of the many bistros. Squirel, Rabbit, and Venison are quite popular on the menus.

Get real, Jenna and Luc!<BR>Jenna, get off your pompous high horse.<BR>Luc, we must visit different parts of Paris. I guess the street sweepers don't bother with the area(s) you inhabit.

Thanks everyone for your replies - now stop bickering! I get the point. The Champs is the Paris equivalent to Times Square, something to experience but not spend too much time on. We will make sure we take a litle time to go there but if my son wants to go to the Virgin Megastore (he's 15), he can wait until we go to London or go to the one in Times Square.<BR><BR>Now I just need to convince the friends we're meeting that this should not be a destination for their 24 hour whirlwind Paris visit.

It has nothing to do with Times Square! Last time I looked Times Square was not what I would call a beautiful , wide avenue, regardless if it is commercial or not. I think that the person that compared Champs Elysees to Times Square has probably never been in Paris

Now Jenna's on Claudia's case now. What's your problem Jenna? Okay, we all get the message: you love the Champs Elysees.

Is the Renault restaurant still there? Your son will love it. You can go for a meal (so-so) or for dessert. There's also an amazing "drugstore" with restaurant in tact..food so-so, but fun place. There's a Hazen Daz. French families seem to come out for ice cream in the evening. Lots of kids hang out. It is not sophisticated, but it is a fun walk...safe..in the evening.

The drugstore you're probably referring to is Pharmacie Derhy at 84, des Champs Elysees that's open 24 hours. Well, it did come in handy on our last morning. My husband decided that he just needed to have an Eiffel Tower souvenir and some souvenir sweathsirts at the last minute and this drugstore had them.
