Champs Elysee, best restaurant/cafe to eat in?

My experience has been that the cafe's on the Champs are nice for sitting and people watching but somewhat pricey for what you get for lunch or dinner.

Just once....forget the expense and have a drink at the historic Fouquet's, 99 av. Champs Elysees. Many movie scenes have been filmed here. Put the receipt in your scrap book so you can later prove that you realy did pay XXXX for a Gin & Tonic that day! JP

I haven't been back for a couple of years now, but I don't recommend any places on the Champs, though if you really want a place, Fouquet would be it, just for the history.

I agree that I don't really like any of them that well, but as long as you're doing that, you might as well pick Fouquet's for the history, etc. I think they discriminate against single women there, though.

I haven't really been in many at the end near the place de la Concorde, though -- I enjoy the scenery a lot more down that way but can't recall names of places I've sat in. I've never had a meal in them, just drinks.

I had friends tell me that the Champs Elysee is not that nice. They said that the cafes are overpriced and it was noisy. I still want to take a walk down the famous street, but if we do want to stop for a snack would anyone know of something resonable?

Fouquets was the first restaurant on the Champs E and the only place that is an ïnstitution. At one time women were banned alone but no longer. It is now listed as a historic building.Check out the beautiful staircase to upstairs dining.

If you are walking from the Arc toward the Louvre, there are numerous cafes that have sidewalk tables for people-watching (it may be that drinks, etc are higher-priced at these seats than the inside ones). Any of them are probably fine for a snack. There is a chain called Brioche Doree that has some French-style pastries, sandwiches, etc.
Once you reach the park-like area (trees, landscaping, etc) after the round ponds, there is not really any place to eat that I recall.
There is a reminder on another thread that if tables have cloths and place-settings, they aren't serving snacks. But if it looks more casual (and you can see what others are having) then you can get a little something...

There is a brasserie called L'Alsace that serves wonderful platters of sauerkraut with various sausages perched atop. There is a kind of tourist office for the Alsace region next door. It's about in the middle of the Champs Elysee if I remember correctly. Its prices are pretty reasonable for the area and the decor is lovely. It's run by the same outfit that owns Pied de Cochon, Capuchins and several other large bistros/brasseries. It's worth going to.

Here's another vote for Fouquet. I went there with my friend Gayle on our first trip to Paris and even a simple meal like chicken & mashed potatoes was delicious. It was a nice splurge for our first time there.

The only time I enjoy the Champs Elysee is in the early morning, when it's deserted! Otherwise it's so crowded!

Had lunch at Vesuvio which was an excellent prix fixe 3 course which ran around $18 including wine (2002). This restaurant was about 1-2 blocks from the Arc.

oh, I should have mentioned Laduree, at #75.
It is a newer branch of the original (better, imo) which is on Rue Royale. Outstanding pastries and hot chocolate, salads and hot food as well.Opens very early in the a.m.
