Chamonix
 

Have you ever stayed in Chamonix in the winter? If so can you suggest a place or two to stay. We are staying in Paris for a few nights and then wanted to ski/snowboard in the french alps and randomly choose Chamonix for 5 days. It seems like a nice place but we've never been there or to France for that matter. <BR><BR>We were planning on taking a train from Paris to Chamonix. Any ideas or suggestion would be deeply appreciated. <BR><BR>Thanks<BR>Jack

How about hotel Le Labrador. We never stayed there but our friends did and they like it a lot

Jack--<BR>Chamonix is my favorite village in the French Alps, and I've been there several times. I always stay at the Hotel Mont Blanc right in town, but you could also check out some of the places outside the village. Chamonix is a wonderful place to enjoy your trip, and you will probably be overwhelmed by the scenery all around.

I lived in France for a number of years and relied totally on the Michelin Red Guide. Chamonix was our destination several times and while I cannot remember where we stayed I recall that both locations were excellent. In general, I would recommend that you avoid the chains. They have a bland, sanitized repetititiveness that cheats you of being in France. Much better a small hotel with its unique individuality. You can't go wrong.<BR>
