Chalet Goldenhorn Penthouse in Wengen anyone?
 

Has anyone stayed at the Chalet Goldenhorn Penthouse in Wengen? Or has anyone had any experience with the rental agency for the chalet, Alpine Holiday Services in Wengen? If so, how is the location? I was originally looking at the Jungfrau Suite in the Hotel Schonegg, but this chalet looks just as nice and is HALF the price. Pros and cons of a private rental chalet versus a hotel? Any trouble checking in or getting luggage to the chalet from the train station? Getting food from the co-op to the chalet? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

According to Google Maps, it's just below the Wengen train station, a very short walk from the station. You can transport your luggage yourself, assuming you're physically able. The Coop is near the station as well, so no worries there.

Looks like a great location to me and a very nice apartment.

We rent apartments in Switzerland all the time - only had a problem once, when the owner understood us to be staying a set number of days, not nights. It was resolved easily enough though.

Swiss apartments usually rent by the week, Saturday-Saturday, with some only renting for two full weeks over the Christmas holidays. In the off season, some will rent for less than a week.

I'd suggest you make sure you know what you're responsible for (such as heating), but these days usually everything is included in the quoted price unless indicated otherwise.

The only drawback to renting an apartment vs a hotel as far as I'm concerned is not having a wonderful Swiss breakfast provided, but that's resolved easily enough with a trip to the bakery and Coop. You're generally responsible for tidying up the place and removing the trash at the end of the stay, but that's about it. Apartments sometimes include a cleaning fee and there will be a per person visitor's tax applied, but it's pretty cheap and affords you some perks in the area (access to swimming pools at a reduced cost, etc).

Transferring the deposit can also be a pain, and expensive.

I would assume the deposit could be made by credit card, Melnq8?

I don't think you should make that assumption. Most business in Europe involves transferring money from bank to bank, and credit card use (while rising) isn't pervasive.

Some larger agencies that rent frequently to Americans do accept credit cards, and this might be one.

I would just email them and ask.
