cesky krumlov transportation pros/cons, any help is greatly appreciated

Hi everyone,

I need to get fr Vienna to Cesky Krumlov in mid Aug 08. My main problem is that I can't find train ticket prices on bahn.de so I am not sure which option is better: train or shuttle.

1. I already know how much the shuttle is from Vienna to CK with lobo shuttle (1100 CZK per person). I want to know how much the train ticket is from Vienna to CK. I tried looking on www.bahn.de numerous times but I can't find any prices for trains from Vienna to CK.

2. My second option is to take the train from Vienna to Linz, then the shuttle from Linz to CK. However, same problem once again: I can't find the ticket prices on bahn.de from Vienna to Linz. Can someone please let me know of the price?

If anyone can let me know of any tips for travelling from Vienna to CK, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks so much!! :)

We had a similar situation last year trying to get out of CK into Germany. We used www.mike-chauffeur.cz a couple of times and were very pleased with his service.
The train from Vienna to CK is a bit over five hours with 2-3 changes, but Vienna to Linz less than 2 hours and no changes. I don't know fare, but should not be much You might like to check www.budgeteuropetravel.com about the trains or even better give them a call at 800-441-9413 or 800-44l-2387 They are very knowledgeable and friendly and no charge for information. I checked the train schedules on www.sbb.ch/en

Funny you should ask, a friend last night was telling me of her experiences getting to CK from Linz on a Sunday afternoon when the shuttle failed to show up as scheduled.

She wound up taking a cab (!) for the 1.5 hour trip, she said it cost her around € 200!! (Hearing this, I thought, if I ever do this, I'm not going to rely on shuttles, at least not on a weekend!)

According to oebb.at (austrian rail) it is € 30 or so for a one-way second class ticket Vienna - Linz; journey is 1.5 to 2 hours as far as Linz.

http://www.cd.cz/static/eng/

is the czech rail website. The only price list I could find was a pdf file listing prices by the km in CZK, and which states that a single trip second class for 100 km is CZK 128. (about € 5) - however, whether this includes any supplements for IC or EC trains, I've no idea.

Note that some routes go via Gmund, not Linz, and some leave from Vienna's Westbahnhof, others leave from Franz Josefs bahnhof. But most routes go via Cesky Budejovice, where one changes to a train to CKrumlov.

It looks like the shuttle straight from Vienna is a lot easier, and maybe not much more expensive (1100 CZK being about € 50).

Thanks to everyone for your replies! The public transportation option seems kind of complicated so I am leaning more towards the shuttle option.

sue_xx_yy, I am extremely alarmed after having read that the shuttle cancelled on your friend last minute. Do you think my chances of getting a shuttle service being cancelled are a lot less if I go straight from Vienna to CK?

A 50 euro shuttle from Vienna to CK seems like a real bargain - and not much more than the train. Seems a no-brainer if that price is right.

roundbunny,I honestly don't know. I think your best option is to book the shuttle, but understand the public transit options as well as you can - just in case.
