Cesky Krumlov accomodation

I would appreciate any recommendations for a family of 4? Has anyone stayed at Pension Anna or Hotel Konvice? Thankyou Jim

My mother and I both concluded that if we ever returned to Cesky Krumlov (we travelled there this past July), we would stay at the gorgeous Hotel Dvorak. This little hotel overlooks the river that runs through Cesky Krumlov. It looks like a postcard, with windowboxes filled with purple flowers. There is a terrace at the back of the hotel were you can sit and watch people in paddleboats.

Stayed at Anna. Fine place.

Don't remember name of hotel we had dinner/beer in, but it was about 3X the price, at least.

Sabbin,

We have been fortunate to have been to Cesky Krumlov on three occasions, and have stayed at the Hotel Konvice, Pension Barbakan, and the Hotel Ruze.

All three hotels are on Horni Street, which is a one-way street that leads directly into the small, main square of this wonderful, medevial town.

The Hotel Konvice is the closest to the main square (about 30 yards up the street.) If you decide to stay here, ask for a room with a river view.

I consider the Konvice more of a pension than a hotel. It has no elevator, but it does have a good restaurant and a terrace where food and libation are served. The rooms come in an assortment of shapes, but all have large, modern, tiled bathrooms with venting fans.

The Konvice is on the side of Horni street that has a view of the river and the castle.

The Barbikan is on the opposite side of Horni street, and another 50 yards further up the street from the main square. The room and terrace views at the Barbakan are very good, and also overlook the river---but not on the castle side. Since it sits on the opposite side of the street, the Pension Barbakan's views are of the other side of the loop in the river (which encircles the town).

There is not much differnce between the two---both have views and the prices are about the same. (The Hotel Ruze which is a recently renovated Jesuit Seiminary, now functioning as a true 5* hotel,is also on Horni street midway between the two other properties.)

My deciding factor would be garage parking (if you are driving).

More tourists in Cesky Krumlov have resulted in more "car break-ins". I would no longer leave my car on the street overnight, which we were comfortably able to do several years ago.

Whichever of these properties, or any others you may select to stay at, go for a drink or lunch at the Konvice and the Barbakan to take in the lovely views of the two different sides of the encircling river.

There is a good map and aerial view of Cesky Krumlov at:

http://www.pragueholiday.cz

After you get to the Cesky Krumlov hotel choices, you will find the map as part of the explanation for the Hotel Barbora (Not the same as Pension Barbakan.)

Walking distances in Cesky Krumlov are very short---as long as you are in the old town, you will be satified with whatever accommodation you select.

The pension and small hotel choices grow on almost a monthly basis. What were empty, decaying properties a year ago, are now flourishing establishments.

You will be happy whereever you stay in this medevial gem!!

In case you haven't chosen accomodations yet I can recommend the B&B at which we stayed 2 years ago. Bed and Breakfast Krumlovska Fontana (Buffet Confectionary) It was clean, modern, right on the town square and very reasonable. They did have different sized rooms. I do believe that one of them was a 2 bedroom. A great web site is www.ckrumlov.cz There is a click sensitive map on the home page. Click on the buildings and it will take you to a page showing what building is there! Find a list of accomodations under "lists". Some places have their own web pages with prices and pictures. You can determine locations using the click map. Fontana is right on the town square by the statue. Hope this helps. CK is gorgeous!! We loved it.
