central verona hotel & opera?

we're making a one-day rail trip to verona to see the opera in july and are looking for a hotel probably in the 120-180 range in central Verona. i've scanned boards and most links here, but haven't found anything that leaps out as in other places.

we're looking for a quiet a/c triple room for an evening that will allow us to walk to opera, walk to dinner and look around a bit before taking train back to rome next afternoon. best suggestions?

also noted helpful opera comments but would appreciate any specific mid-priced tix as you can select some seating online. is it critical to buy now?

thank you!

I haven't been during opera season but would think you should have made hotel arrangements a long time ago. I would do a search on this board for Verona opera. I know there are lots of posts about it.

Two-star Hotel Torcolo and three-star Hotel Giulietta e Romeo are very close to the Arena, and can be recommended.

I stayed at the Hotel Torcolo in early May and it was very good. The proximity to the arena can't be beat. But, it is a very small hotel with a very big following and I would doubt that they would have any availability for the opera season. You can always try. Lots of luck!!

Hi,
One of my great memories is arriving in Verona on opening night of the opera season. I was unaware that it was taking place. We went to the tourist office and they found us a nice 2star hotel within walking distance of the arena. We had dinner and walked to the arena to see if we could hear the opera. The oveture had just started and we were able to buy seats for a discount. Everyone had lit candles, what a site. The opera was fabulous. What a wonderful surprise. You will have a terrific time.
