Central/Norther Greece - help with itinerary
Dear all
I have one week and would like to explore Central/Northern Greece, but have some difficulties coming up with itinerary. Some background - on our previous trip we already visited the islands, Peloponnese and Athens. This trip will start with a few days in Athens, and then: d1: drive to Delphi with stops on the way, overnight at Delphi d2: spend time in Delphi, in pm drive to Meteora, overnight en route. May be kalambaka d3: spend day at Meteora; in pm drive to??? Dion, Zagoria?? HELP d4-d5: Need Help with suggestions d6: drive to Thessaloníki, overnight at Thessaloníki d7: Thessaloniki, start driving to Athens; overnight en route d8: depart from Athens - noon |
This is our trip, planned for September this year. We're actually starting with a UK charter flight to Preveza and ending with a week relaxing on Lefkada but the basic itinerary is do-able from Athens.
2 nights at Generalis Guest house, Arachova (near Delphi): http://www.generalis.gr/home.php 2 nights Meteora: http://www.archontikomesohori.com/ 3 nights in Zagoria: http://www.papaevangelou.gr/EN/index.html |
Hi Dy - After Zagoria I'd suggest a couple of days in Parga on the west coast.
I spent a fortnight there last year and loved it. A very picturesque resort in a very scenic area - one of my favourite spots in Greece :) Here's a view: http://tinyurl.com/6dzrc6 Steve |
I enjoyed stays in Kastoria and Ioannina between Thessaloniki and Meteora - see www.wilhelmswords.com/eur2006.

All suggestions pretty much eliminate Thessaloniki - Delphi and Meteora will occupy 4 to 5 days; then spend a day or two in either Zagoria or Kastoria will eliminates Thessaloniki (as i need to allocate about a day to drive back to Athens for the flight home). Is Thessaloniki a must?

Is Thessaloniki a must? I preferred Kastoria, but I'm not a big city person. Several worthwhile churches and a good museum in Thessaloniki, plus Pella just outside (a bit disappointing). I didn't make it to Vergina, which sounds more exciting than Pella.
