Central Milan Hotel

Hi, Looking for recommendations on a centrally-located nice Milan hotel under 150 Euros. I only have one day in Milan and thus, I'd like to be close to the major sights. I plan on seeing the Duomo, etc, plus go to the opera. I will come in by plane and leave via train. In July.

Thank you.

We spent two nights in Milan at the Hotel Lancaster and really enjoyed it - the rooms were nice and the service was great. It should fit your budget - I think it was about 135 Euros per night. It is close enough to the duomo that we walked there once but there is a tram line that runs very close to the hotel so we took it too. When we went to the opera, we decided to take a taxi but we could have taken the tram - it goes right past La Scala from the hotel.

Here is a link to the hotel: http://www.hotellancaster.it/inglese/home.html

And another link to my trip report - http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...nque-terre.cfm

Near the end of the report I added an expanded version of the first few days and there is a link to some pictures. Even though we were only there two days, we really liked Milan. Have fun!

We stayed at Hotel Berna a couple of years ago in a similar situation, and I'd recommend it highly. It's very close to Milano Centrale station, which means it's easily accessible from the airport. There's at least one more station in Milan, so whether it's convenient for your departure depends on which station you need for that. It's obviously very close to the metro station at Centrale, but we walked down to the Duomo/La Scala area. It took 20 minutes or so.

I believe we paid €112, so at least at that time it was definitely within your budget.

We've stayed at the Hotel Star a couple of times. It's very close to La Scala (about 300 m.) and the Duomo (another 300 m.) and about 1 km. from the Cadorna Nord station (train from Malpensa).

Another vote for Hotel Berna. Loved that place. Best breakfast ever, but the whole place was really nice, and I thought great value considering the price.

Yes , there are two main train stations in Milan,, and you might want to be close to the one you will departing from.
Several years ago we flew in to Milan,, took a 45 minute bus ride to ?????station (further out from the center) and stayed at a nice hotel close by. That day/ early afternoon we took the metro into the central part of the city (only 4 stops) and spent that part of the day in "town",, returned to our hotel and left the next morning by train...fairly easy since we were closer to the large nice train station out of town.Wish I could remember the names of the two stations.I "think" Centrale was the one NOT in the center of the city...???

Well, one station is definitely whichever takes us from airport. Second one is the route to Venice. Haven't completely figured out the stations. Are they far apart? Thank you! I'll check all these out.

The train to Venice leaves from Centrale station (you can find that out on trenitalia.com). I'd assume you're flying into Malpensa airport, which appears to be easily accessible from either station.

julia, the two stations (Centrale and Cadorna) are about 2 miles apart. Both have metro stops.

The Duomo and La Scala are much closer to the Cadorna station, and part of the route between Cadorna and Piazza del Duomo is pedestrian only (Via Dante).

You all are very helpful! Thank you. I think it might be wiser to stay closer to Centrale station and then spend the day traveling to Duomo, etc, and then be close to Centrale when leaving in the morning for Venice. Thanks! So now I'm looking for a hotel that's reasonable and nice closer to Centrale Station.
