Central Location in Barcelona

Can anyone recommend a central location to stay in Barcelona?

I have read that Las Ramblas is not the best place to stay, but there are so many neighborhoods and hotels in each neighborhood that my head is spinning!

I want to narrow down the general location and then search for accommodation from there.

I am staying only 3 days and want to be able to walk to the main sights.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Yes, look in the Eixample area. It's just to the left of Ramblas (if you're walking away from the sea) has lots of wonderful restaurants, and is walkable to most sights. We like the Granados 83 hotel there. Daughter stayed closer to Placa Catalunya and liked the Pulitzer. Both are modern hotels.

You do not have to stay in any of the hotels ON Las Ramblas but being at a hotel near the top of it at the Placa Catalunya is about as "central" for transportation, shopping, and sightseeing, etc., as it gets IMO.

We've stayed at two hotels on the Ramblas, very close to the Plaza de Catalunya:

Hotel Rivoli Ramblas http://www.hotelserhsrivolirambla.com/en/

Hotel Royal http://www.royalramblashotel.com/default-en.html

The Rivoli has better facilities, but we didn't have noise or any problems with either hotel. Placed where they are, they were perfect for us.

colonhotelbarcelona.com We stayed at this hotel with a room looking out at the Cathedral.

Have stayed in the Colon and if you can get a cathedral view room it can be wonderful.

Another hotel on Las Ramblas without noise issues would be the Montecarlo.

The Colon is one of the hotels I am considering -- thank you iris1745 and Dukey1.

I will also take a look at the Royal and Rivoli -- thank you Rubicund.

Julie -- will take a look at your suggestions as well.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions -- narrowing my search from literally hundreds of hotels down to the 6 suggested here makes my selection process so much easier!

I also need to book hotels in Cordoba, Seville and Granada....!!

Take a look at the the medieval and vibrant Born district. Great cafés, tapas bars and restaurants, shopping, sights (the Gothic Santa María del Mar Church, the Picasso museum etc) and close to "everything". Ten minutes walk to both Las Ramblas, the heart of the city Placa de Catalunya and the Barceloneta beach. http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...s/el-born.html

Hotel Banys Orientals would be a good option in El Born: http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/banys-orientals.html

El Born is next to the nice Ciutadella park with the parliament, the zoo, the waterfall and the lake: http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/Engl...mRSDN_oGKN5iBy

The old El Born market (the oldest in town) has now reopened as a cultural center focusing of the three hundred years since Catalunya lost its independence to Spain in 1714. http://elborncentrecultural.bcn.cat/en

I like El Born, but for a short visit I would stay close to Placa Catalunya.
Granados 83 is one of my favorite hotels ( and location)but not for the first time- short stay visitor )

Kimhe -- thank you for the recommendation, but Hotel Banys Oriental is fully booked on the days we will be in Barcelona.

I will also check out Granados 83 - thanks Danon!

Hotel=Condes de Barcelona

Often available rooms even if it shows no vacancy on booking.com. Contact the hotel directly if interested. Banys Orientals is two minutes (200 meters) from Hotel Colón. http://www.hotelbanysorientals.com/en/

I can also recommend plain fantastic and tranquile Hotel Neri one minute away from Hotel Colón and the cathedral. Stayed here in May, by far our best hotel experience ever. http://www.hotelneri.com/en/

kimhe: Hotel Neri is gorgeous! But it is out of my budget -- even with a 20% discount for early booking a standard room is over USD300 per night.

I've contacted Banys Oriental directly for pricing.

I've also contacted the Hotel Condes directly for pricing information, thank you 330East.

Banys Orientals use to be 105€ for a double year around. And we didn't pay for the Neri splurge ourselves ;-)

You are very lucky kimhe!

We were happy with the H10 Raco del Pi -- quiet and well located with a good breakfast.

Judy_Rosa Jan 24th, 2014 01:28 PM

Will check that out, thank you KTtravel!

I am considering the Hotel Europark near Passig de Gracia:

Has anyone heard of this hotel?

dvillegas Feb 4th, 2014 06:20 PM

Here you have many options

I hope it helps

Rubicund Feb 5th, 2014 12:40 AM

The Europark is a nice enough 3* hotel, but it's not on the P de G, it's a good walk away. They say 5 minutes, probably a bit more.
