Central Florence- room with a view?

We go to Florence for the first time at the end of August and hope to find a room that is centrally located, preferably with a view, around $150 a day. I would welcome hearing about places you have stayed and the most convenient area. Many thanks.

I haven't stayed there (yet) but Soggiorno Battistero definitely meets your three requirments (location, view, $$). It has been well regarded, especially in some of the Rick Steves message boards.

I have booked it for 4 nights in June, and will report after we return.

Sue,

If you need a private guide while in Florence please read my write up on Alessandro.

Just got back from Tuscany. We hired a private guide in Florence named Alessandro Cammilli. He was wonderful. A native of Florence, he speaks good english, & knows some of the off the beated path sights. He's very reliable, & very reasonbly priced at $25 per hour for two, $35 per hour for four. He furnishes the transportion, & can take you to Pisa, to the wineries in Tuscany, to good restaurants, to and from the airport, etc. Alessandro is a good italian driver, just don't watch any of the cars when in Florence. Our trip would not have been the same without Alessandro's help. He can even reserve tickets to museums in advance.
You can reach him [email protected]

I agree that Soggiorno Battistero does fit your requirements, we spent 3 nights there in March. Be warned though that it is on the third floor, 70 or 72 steps up, I did it four times in one day. The building faces the Babistry so the view is terrific. We requested a quiet room so we were on the back. Nice place to stay.
