Cellular Modems & Internet in Germany ???

Does anybody know what possibilities there are to purchase a cellular modem with pre-paid Internet service included (or which has an online monthly service purchase option)?
I would like to be able to access the Internet in Germany while on the move, without having to rely on W-LAN, and without needing to aquire a long term contract with the cellphone company.

Quite a few. Do you really need an USB-Modem or don't you prefer to use your phone and connect it to the laptop via bluetooth?

Rates start at 2.50€ per day for full internet (Fonic.de). or if you're only interested in web access and use the Vodafone proxy, one month of free web access is included with every Vodafone SIM card.

A cheap usb modem costs about 50€ but is locked to a network.

Tchibo.de are offering a USB modem in their stores for 50€, with prepaid service, either 3€ per or 20€ per month for unlimited access. HDSPA is enabled.

Logos, thanks for the information; very helpful indeed – couldn’t find it on my own, no matter how hard I tried.

I just noticed a new feature of the fonic SIM. Low rates of 9ct/min to phones in north America and fixed lines in Europe and Russia. :-).
No connection fee.

Fonic is availabe in every Lidl supermarket!!

With the additional 2.50€ for every day of high speed internet it looks like that's the new best offer for German SIMs.

Lets see, how Aldi reacts :-)
