cell phones & mising Dublin hotel

Hi We've still not completely figured out the Ireland part of our March 2010 trip. Now my son mentioned that my (basic/Sprint) cell phone probably won't work there, and that I may have to buy a cheap one while there. Is that true/suggestions?

Also, just viewed 18 yr old film from when my Mom went to Ireland. Uncle narrated the video, and I am not clear on the name of the hotel they stayed at in Dublin: sounded like "Kilronen House" and is 4 stories/white/old home. Anyone heard of this? THANKS SO MUCH for all your help.

Is this it?

YES! Look like in the video. Thanks so much. Guess I was close but not close enough about the name.

Your son is correct about the phone. You can probably buy a cheap, Irish mobile for about 49 Euro.

If you type "Cell Phones" or "Mobile Phones" into the SEARCH THE FORUMS box, you will find more details than you probably want to know. :)

You can also check with your phone company and see if they have loaners. I know Verizon will loan you a phone to use in Europe for up to 21 days. Good luck.

Don't bother getting a loaner. Unlocked quadband GSM phones that will work anywhere in the world that uses GSM can be had very cheaply these days. Get one from the likes of ebay, bestbuy, amazon, tigerdirect, etc., and get a sim card at your destination, pop it in your phone and that's it.
