I got a Mobal three years ago and used it on a couple of trips. I wonder if the battery is still good.

Try it out, by charging up the battery and then switch on the phone and leave it on (it doesn't matter if it connects to a network or not). If it switches itself off after an hour or so, battery is dead and you need a new one. You can usually pick one up cheaply on eBay or at some cell phone stores. Also your Sim card may have been timed out if you haven't used it for a while. I think Mobal phones are locked, so you can't just insert any new Sim card and need to get one from Mobal. I stand corrected on this. |
Thanks, Alec. I'll try that.

"Check www.callineurope.com, it's the cheapest among all of them!"
NOT. $2 a minute for calls in Turkey??? Give me a break, that's outrageous. |
Just "rented" a phone from Verizon using my calling plan. The charge is $9.99 only to cover shipping (incoming/outgoing) for use in 30 days. It's $1.29/minute for voice and .50 to send; .05 to receive. Battery life is 375 mins./295 talking time and comes with a charger/adaptor. I think it's a good deal, it's a Motorola Z6C. All I need is a basic, working phone.

If it's unlocked (so you can use local SIMs if you want to), I'd say that's a good deal.
But I doubt if it is, because Verizon, their policies, and customer service, all suck. |
Robespiere, when I place the rental and called again for more info I was very, very surprise that Verizon's customer service was excellent! The phone would be locked but I just plan to use it for emergency or just text if I can.
