Most credit cards do cover CDW with car rentals but some countries are excluded - such as Italy and Ireland. Check with the card company before assuming that it's covered.

Whatever way you pay for it is worth knowing that 8% of clients of a big car hire company in Ireland have some car damage at the end of their holiday.Drive with care and on the left side of the road. The first day is likely to be more dangerous as you get used to the Irish pattern of driving. The roads are generally narrow so take it easy.Consider driving early in the morning-6 to 8 am in summer- as it is bright and with almost no traffic except in Dublin

Platinum cards cover it, but Amex Gold does not cover it anymore in Ireland.
