CDG to RER route & enough time?
We are scheduled to arrive at 9:45 on Aer Lingus CDG Terminal 1. My question is am I allowing enough time to get to the RER to arrive at Gare de Austerlitz for a 14:04 departure to Cahors?
IF arrival is on time I am estimating 1 1/2 hours to get out of Terminal 1, get money at the atm, and use CDGVAL to RER B terminal. Then 1 hour to Gare Austerlitz, using ratp.fr for routing and adding a few minutes for traveller sleep deprived confusion. I will have printed the train tickets before leaving the U.S. I am hoping for a few minutes to grab coffee and sandwich to eat on the train. My guessestimates seem reasonable to me b/c of our travel experience, having been through CDG before (yes, I tried to avoid)and being comfortable with RER. I really want to use PREMS tickets and don't want to wait until 17:05 to catch the train south. Thus, m I being too optimistic / ambitious? Happy travels all, Julie |
You'll end up having at LEAST two hours to wander around the Gare d'Austerlitz. Plan on having lunch at the café there.

Plenty time to take it slow & absorb the surroundings!

No problem at all. You can even have a leisurely lunch.
If you have a sense of direction and/or know how to read a map, you might even prefer to take the Air France bus route that goes to Gare de Lyon. Then you just cross the bridge over the Seine and Austerlitz is right on the other side. |
Kerouac, I have been considering the Air France bus b/c it would allow us to stretch our legs before heading south. What would you estimate the time between Gare de Lyon and Gare de Austerlitz to be for walkers?
|
If you are not dragging giant suitcases, it is a leisurely 15 minute walk. More like about 8 minutes for commuters in a hurry, many thousands of whom do that at rush hour every day.

Looks like we'll try the Air France bus and absorb the sights and sounds of Paris after our overnight flight. We each use a small "rollie" bag that is easily moved along city sidewalks....now I can start dreaming about a leisurely lunch before boarding the train....
Thanks all for your insights, Julie |
