CDG to Marais transfer
 

Hello, my daughter and I are looking for the best way to get from CDG to our hotel in the Marais with a couple of medium sized suitcases. We would prefer not to use the metro or bus just because of our luggage and wanting to get to the hotel quickly and easily. Our hotel quoted us 85 Euro for a shuttle for the two of us. I'm not sure what the going rate is. Any help would be appreciated.

Take a taxi from the official taxi queue. Do not accept offers from clandestine drivers soliciting from within the terminals.

No need to tip taxi drivers.

Your hotel is run by thieves.
Taxi has a flat rate (no supplmeent, no tip, you're in France) of 50 € (or is it 55 ?).
Just follow the sign, avoid people telling you any kind of BS, go in the line and get an official taxi.
Write down the name and address of the hotel, US tourists have an incredible accent !

Shuttles are not the same as taxis and can set their fees. No thievery by the hotel, even if it might get a commission; just a matter of consumer beware. Want a limo? Pay more.

One thing that I remember is taht I was wondering if all canadians were alcoholic as they wrote in french : Poutine + Liqueur = 5$ (or piastres, that I thought for quite a time was 'pièces')...

Limo or not, when somebody asks for a service, he states just that : a service. The client is not supposed to know all subtelties between shuttle limo etc.

I was at a hotel (surprise) recently in Paris (...) and was reading the nice ad on the desk :
Shuttle : 2 pp : 65 €, 3 pp 75 € 4 85 €.

Taxi : 2 pp 50, 3 pp 50, 4 pp : 50 €.

So it is legal theft, or good marketing ?
But in the end paying nearly double for a service that you didn't specify was a private transfer is still theft for me. You know there is a solution for 50 €, and you provide one for 85 €. Without giving a choice.

You are presuming that people are idiots and cannot talk or ask questions, and that's okay. Where is your righteousness about people being too dumb to ask questions or say what they want? If they want a taxi, they can ask for a taxi. If someone quotes 80 euro for a "transfer", they can open their mouth and ask what it is, can't they. Or, they can ask what it would cost for a taxi, can't they?

The OP clearly said this quote was a "shuttle", not a taxi. No mention was made that the hotel refused to tell them the cost of a taxi. Some people use the word "shuttle" just to mean an airport car. There are ones that are private, also, and some people don't like taxis for some reason and want a private car. I don't get it but I've seen it many times on Fodors, someone praising how great it is to have a private car instead of a taxi from the airport, because they can't walk out to the curb or something.

Personally, I think 85 euro for an airport shuttle is on the high side, but it's not thievery in that world. Inter Shuttle only charges 55 euro for 2 people, private, but I think they used to charge more and changed their rate with the taxi rate change came. Super Shuttle, however, does charge 85 euro in Paris for an airport van for 1-3 people.

Well OP isn't as dumb as you imply I think people are.
But maybe I should start thinking you are.

Just a quick update since our return from Paris.
I heard at the last moment about a company, BT Transfer, that does transfers from CDG to Paris for 55Euro. I used them both from the airport and back again and they were fabulous!

The driver was waiting for us upon arrival, very friendly and spoke some English. The car was spotless and the driver was very professional.
We paid 55Euro cash at the end of the transfer.
On the way back we had the same excellent service. The driver arrived a few minutes in advance of our 7:15am booking.
Easy booking online with a quick confirmation back.
For 5 Euro more than what a taxi was supposed to be, I would HIGHLY recommend BT Transfer. Check them on Trip Advusor - they have excellent ratings.

Francewithfive, I just read your post and looked at BT's website. Does this rate include anywhere in Paris? We are trying to figure out how to get from CDG to our hotel near Gare de l'est. One more question, did you book in advance and were they easy to locate at the airport? We speak very, very limited French but are diligently brushing up before our trip in 4 weeks!

What is the problem with taking a certified Parisian taxi (for the same price)?

StCirq, WoinParis - I never said taxis weren't cool! However, it was nice to arrive on my own with my daughter and all of our luggage and have someone waiting for us to give us a hand after a flight. For only 5 Euro more, it was worth it and I wanted to share it with others.

travel monkey You will have to connect with them about specifics but I can't imagine it would be more to your hotel. Yes, I pre booked online and a driver with a sign was waiting for us as soon as we came out of the arrivals area. It was SO EASY - which is why I wanted to share it with people like you!
