CDG to HOLIDAY INN PORTE D'ITALIE

What are our options to be transported economically from Charles de Gaule airport to Holiday Inn Porte D'Italie? Our flight arrives at noon April 6

RER from Terminal 2 to Denfert Rochereau; then I'd take a taxi - your hotel seems to be 1/2 mile or so from a metro, wouldn't want to hike that w/luggage and not really knowing where to go exactly.

i was going to comment on the others lack of mentioning the metro option when i checked the location of this hotel on my map of paris.

it is literally off the map!
you have from 500 to 1000m walking from the nearest metro station (kremlin or gentilly).

go to this site and type in the paris postal code

I would suggest you take an airport shuttle van in this case. A taxi would be okay but you are especially concerned about cost, and you never know about traffic. I don't think it would be worth the trouble to take the RER to Denfert and then get a taxi -- in comparison to a shuttle van from CDG straight to your hotel. YOu don't say how many people, but if 2, I'd suggest a shuttle.

That taxi fare wouldn't be too terrible, most likely, though, because you'd just be going around the peripherique and I often do that anyway when entering to MOntparnasse--perhaps 50 euro barring something really unusual. I'd take a taxi if you have 3 people.

Hi Donzo,

Are you locked into this place?

It looks like something convenient for business travelers, but not tourists.

You are about 600m from the nearest metro.

Are you sure it is "Porte d'Italie" and not "Place d'Italie"? Because if it's the latter, then you're OK, but if it's Porte d'Italie, you'll be in hell, by the Interstate to Lyon, miles away from any metro, in a not very safe area. And it's not even a real HI, it's a HI Express. Plus they are currently building the tram on the Southern boulevards, so traffic is even more nightmarish than usual. One word: run!

your scaring him. its only 10days away so i dont think he can change hotel. the location is on the peripherique. 600m is a long walk with luggage but nothing out of this world. just make sure you study the map so you dont take a wrong turn and double that distance. (my hotel was 150m from metro stop but i got lost and spent quite a while walking with luggage). without your bags it will be a peacefull stroll to the metro.enjoy paris.

Hi Gang - have worked out travel details for us: Shuttle from CDG 76 Euros (that was good advice), bus to/from hotel (RATP 125 - couple of blocks), Metro (7 Porte D'taly very close), got some good leads on local restaurants. this inquiry sure resulted in some useful and some very errant/gloomy opinions I will take more time next time when I get those great offers ($1288 for 2 of us including 6 nites at 3* hotel and airfare from New Orleans) We have always had a good time in gay Paree. We sometimes paid exorbitant fees and got speared by those Mercedes-driving taxi pirates

What is so great about 76E Shuttle. The taxi would be less undoubtedly. AND if you take a Taxi Parisienne you won't be gypped as you imply.

"Economically" and €76? I don't get that.

But since you don't seem to be averse to public transport, how about RER B to Châtelet, Metro 7 to Porte d'Italie, and bus 186 to the door?

Roby - my wife did not appreciate me diving into this so haphazardly. My first post was before she really got involved. She likes shuttles and that was that. I am the type to back pack the bus and be done with it. Believe me I have noted your itinerary suggestions and consider them quite valid - butttt

well, I guess I suggested a shuttle van as a possibility, but I never expected you to come up with one that cost 76 euro! I think that would be a good idea if there are 2 of you, or possibly 3, but either you have found one with really high fees or there are a lot of you. You probably should have said how many people you were talking about. On the other hand, you seem satisfied and I know I estimated a taxi at 50 euro to that point in the same post (maybe some other estimates were up there, not sure).

You will avoid any possibility of some unusual traffic tieup for an hour which could run a taxi fare higher than that, if that satisfies you (I wouldn't pay that much myself, think that's way too high). What shuttle service is that?

Just for the record, the shuttle (Paris Shuttle in particular) charges 76E ROUNDTRIP for 2 people. So, not so bad, IMHO.

Christina

In another post you recommended the Hotel Carofftel Gobelins. My friend and I have booked reservations there, and would like to know how to get there from CDG. We would rather not take a taxi, we would like something less expensive. Thank your very much, you seem to know a lot about Paris.

Robespierre,

Thanks for the information. Do you think that station will still be under construction by mid May?
