CDG to Familia Hotel?
If I take the RER to get to this hotel can you please tell me where I should be getting off?
|
well, the RER doesn't really go to that hotel, you'll have to transfer from the RER to a metro line. You'd get out at the St Michel RER stop, then transfer to line 10 (which involves an underground walk, maybe a block. Then you'd get out at Cardinal Lemoine stop, I suppose. It's maybe a couple blocks from there, but I think it is downhill at that spot, which is why I wouldn't recommend getting out at Maubert and walking uphill, I think it can be steep around there.
I wouldn't use that method to get to that hotel, myself. |
The underground walk would be from the St-Michel Notre-Dame RER station to the Cluny-La Sorbonne Metro station.
|
Thanks Christina. So what method would you use?

Thanks Tim. I guess I'll take the RER to St Michel and then a cab to the hotel.

If you're young and strong and your luggage isn't too heavy you could do it, otherwise a shuttle from CDG would be your best bet if you want to save a bit over a taxi.
You could take also take a taxi from the St Michel stop but it's a short ride. Will you be alone? If with another person a taxi would probably be less than a shuttle since you pay for the ride. Why don't you ask the hotel about the best way to get there? |
If you don't want to take a taxi, I'd take a group shuttle van.
Some taxis may not want to take you that short distance, so be prepared if they won't do it or give you a dressing down when you say you want to go about 1 km. I had a taxi refuse to take me somewhere when the distance was about 1.5 km (and I had luggage). Legally, I think they are supposed to, of course, but if you are waiting in a taxi queue for fares and get that and will lose your place in line, and then have to come back to get another fare, you might not want to, either. Of course, some taxis may just take you a big roundabout way so the fare ends up being a lot more than 1 km. That hotel is just poorly located for public transportation, at least with luggage. |
We took the RER to St. Michel Notre Dame station and walked to the Familia.
We didn't think it was a bad walk, and we had our small suitcases. Byrd |
I think we will walk it then. Did you like the Familia Byrd?
|
Micheline,
We did. Our room, of course, wasn't huge, but was nicely decorated and the bathroom was fine. The room was on the front of the building and had double windows that opened to a good street view. The staff were friendly, and we enjoyed wandering about the neighborhood and people watching (lots of students about, of course.) Have a wonderful trip to Paris. Byrd |
Just for fun I went to viamichelin.com and checked the distance from St-Michel Notre-Dame to your hotel. It's 0.8km with an estimated walking time of 11min.
The RATP site says that the walk from St-Michel Notre-Dame to the Cluny-La Sorbonne Metro station takes seven minutes, the ride from there to Cardinal Lemoine takes two minutes, and the walk from there to your hotel takes five minutes. |
Thanks everyone for your replies. We will be there in two weeks!
