CDG to Bordeaux
 

Searching for the best way to quickly and reasonably get to Bordeaux (LaForge) after arriving at CDG on a weekday morning. Desire public transportation and round trip back to Marais area of Paris. Can anyone suggest a preference? Thank you

Take the RER B to St. Michel. 30 min
Transfer to the Metro line 4 to Gare Montparnasse. 35 min
Take the TGV to Bordeaux St Jean Station. 3 hr.

PREM TGV fares are 25E ea way.

You can see if times from CDG Terminal 2 might fit your schedule.

Look for a train from Roissy to Bordeaux. "Roissy" will show trains for CDG Terminal 2. A weekday I picked showed 7:40 & 8:55 in the morning, 1:45 in the afternoon. The train ride is 4 hours.

You can book as early as 60 days in advance. If you're lucky you can get a Prems fare about 30euro one way.

You'll book this as two one-way tickets. The return trip to Paris will take you into Montparnasse train station. From there you can take a taxi or the Metro to the Marais.

By the way the RER ride from CDG into Paris is a little over 9euro.

I used "aeroport Roissy" and it wouldn't work.

No problem ira. I don't know why the web site doesn't explain this better. Don't millions of people a year land at CDG?

There is direct TGV service from CDG to Bordeaux. The problem here is that when you go to the SNCF site, you have to enter "CDG 2 TGV" (without the quotation marks) as your departure station and check "Direct routes only." If you enter "Roissy" or even some variant reading which includes CDG, the SNCF site won't recognize it.

I just keyed in roissy (sic) and got results for CDG to Bordeaux.

I do this as it's much easier to remember Roissy's spelling then the CDG abbreviations.

Well, the last time I tried entering "Roissy," I was unsuccessful. I'm glad it worked for you--and I agree that remembering the CDG abbreviations is a bit of a challenge. It took me several attempts before I got it right.

Tim, you should have seen me when SNCF had Vienne (south of Lyon) misspelled in their tables as Vienna.

I was wondering why it would take an overnight train to get a few miles south of Lyon. Turns out their system was defaulting to the one in Austria. :-)

In a previous post I gave insufficient information. The correct entry is "Airport CDG 2 TGV," not simply "CDG 2 TGV." And I tried indytravel's suggestion and just entered "Roissy." This time it worked.

Tangential, but related: :-) The only way I could get Mappy to accept CDG was to type "aeroport Paris Charles de Gaulle".
