CDG to Bercy, and inbetween?

Hi all,

My husband and I will be arriving in Paris around noon and have until 7:00p.m. to catch an overnight train at Bercy station. What is the best way to get from CDG to Bercy station (we'll be traveling relatively lightly)? And if you had this much time, what would you do inbetween? I've tried to look for Bercy station online and can't seem to find it. I keep coming up with hotels. Thanks a bunch.

Linda
Linda,

The Gare de Bercy is right near the Gare de Lyon. You can take an Air France bus to the Gare de Lyon, then walk about 500 meters down the rue de Bercy to the your station.

If you have time for dinner, you might want to eat at the Train Bleu restaurant upstairs in the Gare de Lyon. Fabulous ornate "Belle Epoque" decor. It's quite expensive though (you can also go for a drink at their bar). There are also several brasseries on the esplanade facing the Gare de Lyon which look fine.

Bon voyage!
Andre

Dear Andre,

Thanks very much for your reply. I didn't realize Gare de Bercy was so close to Gare de Lyon. Since we will be back in Paris before going home, I will check out Train Bleu for our splurge dinner. I have another question, if you don't mind. Is there enough to see in this area for 5 or 6 hours, or would you recommend we stopover elsewhere and then head over to Bercy? Merci beaucoup!

I don't think there's enough to do there for 5-6 hours, it's not a very exciting area. The only thing I can think of is the Viaduc des Arts http://www.viaduc-des-arts.com/ It would be nice to eat dinner at Train Bleu, though, so given that will take a couple hours, you could probably spend another couple hours shopping and sightseeing at Viaduc des Arts, and that would about fill up your time. If your plane arrives at noon, you won't get to Gare de Lyon for quite a while, probably at least 1-1/2 to 2 hrs due to getting off plane, getting baggage and then the bus there. If Viaduc des Arts isn't of interest (I didn't find it as interesting as some of the people on here did but I mainly saw upscale home furnishings places which I'm not interested in, so maybe I missed something) you could easily stroll over the place de Bastille for sightseeing.

You can also go the opposite direction of the Viaduc des Artistes to Bercy Park, then on into Bercy Village. The area is pretty, the park has a lovely rose garden, there's a "museum" dedicated to the parks and open spaces of Paris, the Village is a recreation of last century with good restaurants and shops. Area is the oldest inhabited part of Paris; the old entrepots where wine deliveries to Paris were stored are still there - a couple of them hold some sort of folk museum that's open by appointment only. Best part, though, are the innumberable wine wholesalers ("retail customers welcome") in the area.

I have "heard" on another board that the food at Le Train Bleu is not exceedingly special so a drink might be enough and a "splurge" elsewhere the way to go. The room is stunning and where you have your glass of wine overlooks it all. We enjoyed the viaduc very much--artisans as well as shops. Wonderful use/preservation of the space.
