CDG to Bercy
 

Hi
We arrive into CDG at 1145 and have a 1800 departure from Bercy on the overnight train to Rome. Our question is are there lockers at Bercy to leave our bags while we explore for the afternoon? Also in reading your archived comments it seems best to taxi from CDG to Bercy - there are 4 of us? Thanks in advance.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there is no luggage storage at Bercy. However, there definitely are lockers at Gare de Lyon which is close by. Your cheapest transport--and best choice if you don't have much luggage--would be the RER Line B to Chatelet Les Halles and then either RER Line A, RER Line D, or Metro Line 14 to Gare de Lyon. (According to my map, that Metro line also stops at Bercy, but the RER lines don't.) The price is 7.70 euros. You could take an Air France coach directly from CDG to Gare de Lyon for 11.50 euros. However, unless traffic is bad, a taxi (including the fee for each piece of luggage) would cost about the same as four coach tickets.

Tim is correct. Bercy is a little-used station except for night trains and car-ferry services. It is within easy walking distance of the Gare de Lyon where there are luggage storage facilities, both lockers and a left luggage (attended) room.

If I am flying into cdg at 7:05 pm, and want to take a taxi to bercy train station; will I make it in time considering distance an traffic? How do I catch a taxi when I get there?

If there are 4 of you with luggage take a taxi. It will be about 45E without the hassle of the RER or even the bus.
For getting a taxi just go to the taxi queue and the guy there will get you one. Do not take a cab from anyone who approaches you inside the terminal door. And take a taxi marked Taxi Parisien.

For trueguy. Readers will need to know what time your train leaves Bercy before we can answer your question about making your connection.

My wife and I are flying in from swiss airline due to arrive at 7:05 pm and want to connect via night train at Bercy station at leaves at 8:00pm. We were concern that the airline may be late and we could end up missing our reservation which apparently cost 200 per person for point to point reservation at raileurope.com.

We were also contemplating flying into venice from orly using Volareweb.com.

I am not sure what is the best method, can the group recommend?

If your flight arrives at CDG at 7:05pm, I doubt you can make it to Bercy by 8:00pm.

Another possibility is to rush to the TGV station, and take the 7:25pm train. It arrives are Dijon Ville at 21:19, which will give you over an hour before the Paris-Venice sleeper departs at 22:41.

But I don't know if you can get from the plane to the train in 20 minutes, especially if you have luggage. Possible if your flight is early, I guess...

I would go from "doubt" to "not a prayer". You need to change your train travel arrangements. This might be a time to think about flying.

BTW, trueguy - Where are you flying from? Won't you be flying in from Zurich or Geneva on Swiss? Why Paris?

Do you guys think I can get from CDG to ORY airport in an hour or so to catch this flight leaving at 9:30 for Venice:

What is the best way to go to ORY airport from CDG? Taxi? cost?

This flight only costs 141 euro for the both of us vs. 400 euros by train. I don't know why the train is so expensive. We still save money even if we have to pay for a hotel.

I usually am not as conservative as many on connection times as I've made some at CDG with 45-50 min, but I agree there isn't any way in the world you get make an 8 pm train if your plan is scheduled to arrive at 7:05 pm. what were you thinking.

It is possible you can make it from CDG to Orly in 45-60 minutes, especially at night when traffic might be less, but that's the travel time itself. I think the best way is the AF shuttle bus which goes between the two airports.

You don't seem to be considering all the time to actually get off the plane, collect luggage, find the transit point, buy tickets, wait, check-in at the other end, find things, etc.

Just stay for the night in Paris and fly out the next morning.

Or if you can change your Swiss flight, terminate it at Zurich and catch the train from there to Venice instead.

thanks for your reply. I have decided to just take it easy and stay for the night. Thanks for suggesting Zurich to Venice route but the train leaves at 9 in the morning.

If I fly in at 7, what is my best bet in traveling around the city. Would it be by bus? I haven't yet, but planning to book a hostel in paris.

Well, I guess if your ticket is already booked to Paris, and can't be changed, then that's it.

However, just to get the record straight. There is a overnight sleeper train from Zurich to Venice. EN 303, 23:09 - 7:36. That'd give you a few hours in Zurich (assuming you're arriving from LAX at 16:15), have dinner there, and then take the sleeper.
