CDG to 7th
 

Good evening, all. I will arrive at CDG on a Saturday. I need to get to my hotel in the seventh district. What is the best (convenient and inexpensive) way to do this?

Take a cab. That would be the most convenient.

It won't be the most inexpensive, public transportation will (metro/RER), but the most convenient is not the most inexpensive.

Any idea on what it would cost for two of us?

If you don't have a lot of luggage, the RER/ Metro can be very convenient <i>and</i> inexpensive.

The RER was 7.75 Euros when I took it a couple of months ago. Your RER ticket will take you for the remainder of your trip on the metro if the RER isn't taking you to a convenient stop for your hotel. A taxi to the 7th can run 45 Euros, depending on traffic. The Air France bus to the Etoile and then the metro to your hotel is another option and I think it was around 11 Euros per person the last time I took it. (You could also take a taxi from there.)

At the risk of sounding incredibly stupid, is the RER the train? or is it a bus? or both? and how do I get a pass or is it a ticket?

sorry, by the way, I'm staying near the Louvre if that changes anyone's advice.

The Louvre IIRC is on the Right Bank
and the 7th on the Left? Right? No?

weluv2travel, yes, the RER is a train. It is integrated into the metro system in central Paris and it has reach into the suburban areas. You can see the routes of the RER and Metro by going to:

well, llamalady, I was told to look at the hotel's address and the last two numbers were the district number and this one is 07, so I think so. Some have said there is a view of the Louvre. Sorry for the confusion.

Llamalady, after looking at my reply, it appeared to be sarcastic. I apologize, I didn't mean for it to look that way. Forums and email - both can be misunderstood so easily.

At any rate, if you're in the 7th you're not near the Louvre.

Take a taxi. On a Saturday morning, traffic will be fairly light going into the city as long as there's not an accident on the p&eacute;rif&eacute;rique, and it should cost you about 40&euro; plus a few &euro; for luggage.

You can take the RER (commuter train), but to the 7me that is a hassle unless you have exceedingly small, light luggage.

You could also take the Air France shuttle to the Gare Montparnasse and then take a taxi to the hotel for about 10 &euro;.

My advice - take a taxi.

I arrived at CDG in April &amp; took the Air France bus -- you don't have to be an AF passenger--to Gard du Lyon for 14 euros, and then took a cab to my hotel in 5th e for 6 euros. I wouldn't want to fool around with stairs for the metro/RER on arrival. If you get a cab, just make sure to settle on a flat rate and whether there is a bag-handling charge before you get into the car.

If you take the only legitimate taxis at CDG - the Taxis Parisiens - you can't &quot;settle on a flat rate,&quot; at least in my experience. And the Taxis Parisiens are the only ones you SHOULD take. Those guys that wander around and come up and offer to take you into Paris are illegal and to be avoided. Get in the Taxi line, and an attendant will hook you up with a cab. The rate won't be negotiable - the meter starts when you get going.
Same goes for taxi drivers at the Gare de Lyon and Gare Montparnasse (which is probably closer to your hotel).

Ok, another dumb question.... is that 40Euros for one or both of us?

St. Cirq is correct. If the poster &quot;agreed on a flat rate&quot; they were negotiating with a &quot;gypsy cab&quot; and were over charged. Deal only with Taxi Parisien at CDG.

We have taken the shuttle to Gare Lyon and then a taxi saves $$. Also, I have stayed in a hotel on Quai Voltaire which was on the Seine directly across from the Louve, so it is possible to see the Louve from the hotel, but maybe not from your room.

weluv2travel, the taxi fare is for both of you (not per person, like a shuttle, RER, bus, etc.)

The rate is for however many people are in the taxi. Plus something for luggage.
