can anyone kindly give advice on whether there are taxis from cdg that will accommodate a family of four and luggage (to the 16th)and how much would we be expected to pay (any extras since we are four with luggage). Thanks.

Yes, there are Taxi Parisien vans that hold up to 7. It should cost you about 40-50€ to get to the city center. There is a charge for luggage, but I think it's only a euro or two per bag.

Thanks for the info. Do we just line up at the taxi stand in front of CDG terminal, go to some counter inside the terminal or reserve in advance? Would there be a website for this "Taxi Parisien"? Thanks again.

You exit out your terminal and look for the line for the taxis. It's a big, blue, square sign that has a white car in it.

As StCirq said, the taxi needs to have the official "Taxi Parisien" fixture on it's roof. Do NOT take any other taxi that may pull up and try to get you to go. These are independents who may try to charge you whatever they can.

You can look at this CDG map to see where the taxi stands are located outside of each terminal.

Taxi Parisien is just a standard sign on top of any taxi that is registered with the city.

Taxis in Paris can be independent or belong to one of the companies (G7, Alpha Taxis, Taxis bleus, etc. ). But they all have this white top stating "taxi parisien". Paris is one of the few cities in the world where taxis don't have any "uniform" (such as yellow cabs in NYC, or red and white in Madrid, etc. ), they are just plain normal cars with the famous "Taxi" sign. As for your particular problem, just join the line. At its end there should be a kind of steward monitoring the line, make him understand that you need a "monospace" (French for van) to accommodate your party. He might grumble and gesture, but don't let yourself be deterred by this perfectly normal Parisian self-defense attitude! He'll just tell you to stay on the side, until a van appears (normally after three or four cars at worst).
