CDG Sheraton - worth the price?

We're considering staying at the Sheraton that's part of terminal 2 in Charles de Gaulle airport. I've heard that it can actually be an inconvenient walking distance (with no shuttle) to terminal 1, where our flight may actaully depart. Has anyone stayed at this location, and are there recommendations for outlying hotels?

IMO, the only reason for staying at the Sheraton at CDG - and paying those prices - is the convenience of being able to take an elevator right into the terminal. If you're not leaving from terminal 2, it isn't worth it. There are all kinds of hotels (Ibis, Mercure, Holiday Inn, etc.) right near the terminal 1 complex, and they all have shuttles that will take you right to the terminal.

Rdtripper,
I stayed 3 yrs. ago at the 4 star Millenium Copthorne, courtesy of overbooking by TWA, and it was quite nice with a huge double room, great bath, good dining, even a pool and serviced by the airport shuttle bus that goes around to all the outlying hotels. I''ve seen rates on discount internet booking sites for 160 euros or less.
My friends just booked the 4 star Radisson SAS for June, also in the airport area for 130 euros including vat and brk. at www.radissonsas.com. Expedia also has a Special Value Rate for it which is less but doesn't include vat/brk.

Just helped a friend book the Marriott CDG for $40/night through Priceline. It's about 1.5 mi from the airport and is served by the airport shuttle. There's a good review of the hotel at www.biddingfortravel.com. Scroll down and open France Hotels.

Rdtripper,

You CANNOT walk from the Sheraton to terminal 2 - you will need to take a shuttle bus. The closest upscale hotels to terminal 1 are the Sofitel and Hilton. Both require a shuttle but the ride is considerably shorter than from the Sheraton.

www.hilton.com
www.sofitel.com (hotel code 0577)

Hope this helps,
Andre

I should add that I've never stayed at a CDG hotel so can't vouch for either establishment. However the Hilton is much newer so probably nicer.

Hope this helps,
Andre

If it's only for one night, you might try waiting til near when you need the room & try Lastminute.com or LateRooms.com

When I have an early departure from CDG, I usually stay at the Ibis. It is the cheapest hotel at the airport. Please make certain you make a reservation for the Ibis IN the airport and not for the one in Roissy.

Something further you might want to know: I do not buy the breakfast in the hotel, as it isn't worth the money.

I stayed at the Sheraton, and it is around the corner from Terminal 4 (?) (sorry, I can't remember and am too lazy to look it up.

I found a reasonable price (under $200) but using a discount hotel online service. However, I found the hotel very cold--both in decor and reception. I had opted for this because it had a "gym." Ha, Two or three machines crammed into a closet size room. I would not stay there again.
