CDG connection time question

Wondering if this will work;
Icelandair flight arriving CDG @ 1pm
with a connection to easyJet flight departing to Bologna @ 14:30 terminal 2B.
Looks like the check in time for the Bologna flight closes at 13:50

Doesn't look like easyJet has anything later that day. We'll only have carry on luggage.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I doubt that you will be able to make the connection. If another flight arrives at the same terminal as yours shortly before your flight, you will have long lines to get through immigration; and since you are dealing with separate bookings, the airline (Icelandair) will have no obligation to try to expedite your transfer.

Judy Aug 12th, 2012 08:20 AM

I wouldn't book a 50 minute connection at CDG, especially having to check in with EasyJet.

cybor Aug 12th, 2012 08:31 AM

Does anyone know if terminal 2B or the arrival of my Icelandair flight is close to immigration?
Other flights don't seem to be working out.

Just looking at the itinerary - eastJet states that the Bologna flight leaves at 14:30 and that check in closes at 13:50 - does that mean check for already ticketed passengers with carry on?

StCirq Aug 12th, 2012 08:33 AM

If it were an Air France-Air France (or code share) connection, you'd likely make it. Connecting to Easy Jet - I doubt it.

<<"Connecting to Easy Jet - I doubt it.">>

Thank you for the answer but can you tell me why - location, logistics, etc.

janisj Aug 12th, 2012 08:39 AM

"<i>check in closes at 13:50 - does that mean check for already ticketed passengers with carry on?</i>"

It means for everybody. easyJet is VERY strict about check in. Being in the queue at closing time is not enough, one must be checked in.

I don't think there is a chance in hell you'd make the connection.

StCirq Aug 12th, 2012 08:40 AM

If you're flying Air France/Delta, they routinely schedule short connecting times and are set up to enable passengers to make them. They have staff on the ground to guide you from terminal to terminal and shoo you through the corridors andmake sure you get to the right gate. I've made 45-minute connecting flights that way.

If your next leg is with Easy jet, nobody cares; it's up to you. And Easy Jet passengers have to go through that lugggage-weighing exercise, which eats up time.

Michael Aug 12th, 2012 08:42 AM

It looks like Icelandair uses Terminal 1. Forget about connecting with a flight leaving Terminal 2B with a 50 minute connection time.

Gordon_R Aug 12th, 2012 08:42 AM

In case you're not familiar with them, it's because Easyjet are a budget airline who impose notoriously strict rules on check-in times, baggage limits etc. Flexibility is not in their lexicon, and if you are just a minute late at the check-in desk you'll be denied boarding. Fr some simple journey's they're absolutely fine, but I would never risk relying on a short onward connection with them.

StCirq Aug 12th, 2012 08:48 AM

Oh gosh! If you're coming into Terminal 1 there's NO WAY!!!

cybor Aug 12th, 2012 08:56 AM

Grrrr. My own fault.
Had everything planned but somehow overlooked this key bit of info. Looks like I may have to eat this ticket. EasyJ has a few flights the next morning but that will screw up my Italy plans. There are flights leaving BVA but not a whole lot of online or up to date info on getting from CDG to BVA. Anyone know about transport to BVA? There's a few shuttle services but they don't tell me what time they leave/arrive.

Thanks for your prompt answers. It's really what I thought - was hoping for a magic wand.

Michael Aug 12th, 2012 09:03 AM

It took us close to two hours to get from Beauvais to the western edge of Paris. Even if you have a direct shuttle from CDG, the time will not be much less. I would schedule a minimum of 4 hours to get between the two airports.

StCirq Aug 12th, 2012 09:05 AM

There are several options.Looks like you have to contact them with your arrival and departure times and they will get back to you with a schedule/quotes.

cybor Aug 14th, 2012 11:24 AM

No response from the above shuttle company. The flight at BVA is at 18:15 which gives us plenty of time to get there if we can figure out how.
Alternate option is to go to Venice for more $$$$ from CDG but that flight isn't until 19:00. ;)

If anyone knows of bus and/or a train that will get us there please let us know.

Michael Aug 14th, 2012 11:34 AM

Grab the BVA shuttle from the Porte Maillot.

Michael Aug 14th, 2012 11:41 AM

The Air France no 2 bus to l'Etoile stops at the Porte Maillot.

cybor Aug 14th, 2012 11:45 AM

Thanks - I'll check it out. I was hoping to not have go into Paris proper if I didn't have to.
I do remember that there is a bus that goes between the two airports but I can't remember the name of it.

Aduchamp1 Aug 14th, 2012 11:50 AM

I once flew Vueling out of CDG and the fun and frisk portion of the flight took forever. Additionally, the signs at CDG are awful and you lose time just getting to where you are supposed to be.

StCirq Aug 14th, 2012 11:58 AM

<<Transfers between airports: Charles de Gaulle airport to Orly airport: Air France operates a bus transfer service between Charles de Gaulle airport and Orly airport. The bus departs from Terminal 1 and Terminals 2A -2F (the same points as the Air France bus to Paris) and it runs every 30 minutes from 5:55AM to 10:30PM. The price is 19.00€ one-way (children 2-11: 9.50€)>>.

Christina Aug 14th, 2012 12:57 PM

I don't think the AF bus that stops at Porte Maillot goes into Paris proper. Sure, that stop is really Paris, but it's on the far edge and I think the bus gets there from the airport by going around the peripherique, not through central Paris. That is where it enters Paris and then goes to l'Etoile.

There are a couple shuttle companies that advertise this, but it won't be cheap, that airport is very far away (almost 60 miles from Paris)--if you google you can find them (like Royal). That would probably cost around 100 euro. I've never heard of a bus between them.

There is actually a train station at Beauvais and then you could take a taxi to the airport from it, that woudn't be too far. The train leaves from Gare du Nord in Paris and there are direct TER trains about every hour. The trip takes about 1:15 from Gare du Nord.

So you'd take the RER into Gare du Nord and then get a train to Beauvais. The fare is only 13.5 euro from Gare du Nord. There are trains at 12:01, 13:01, 14:01 and 16:05 on some weekdays, other days may differ or weekends, but there are plenty, you'd have to check the SNCF schedules. The airport estimates the taxi from the Beauvais station to the airport is around 10-15 euro.
http://www.aeroportbeauvais.com/acces.php

Of course you'd have to make time to make those transfers and buy tickets (for the train), as you cannot buy one online and print it out yourself.

StCirq Aug 14th, 2012 01:11 PM

Oh, sorry, when you said "between the two airports, I was thinking Orly and CDG. Forgot you were looking to get to Beauvais.

cybor Aug 14th, 2012 03:07 PM

Appreciate all your input.
I found these shuttle services:
Always shuttle & Mondial shuttle. Both are 80 EU from door to door for 2 people. really not that much more than taking other transport.
This may be the way to go as the other options thus far sound like we'll be racing the clock.
It would be simpler to go to Venice instead as we wouldn't have to leave CDG but there aren't many places to stay in Sept.

Christina Aug 16th, 2012 10:17 AM

That's not bad at all, I'd pay 40 euro a person for the convenience, if you go that route. Because even taking the train would cost you around 8 euro into Paris, then around 15 euro on the train and another 5 euro in taxi (per person), something like that.

cybor Oct 10th, 2012 02:21 PM

Reporting back that I did end up taking the first flight that I originally asked about despite having reservations for a 2nd (additional) flight and the shuttle service. The shuttle service canceled on us last minute so we're contesting those fees.
We did, however, have to eat the cost of the 2nd flight.

We did not have to go through customs because we flew through Iceland.

We managed to get a passport stamp, get our Icelandair checked in luggage, go from terminal 1 to 2, check in luggage and pay for it, get to the EasyJet gate with time to spare.
Not that I'd recommend doing things this way but it did work.
