Hello,

First time to Paris from the States. How long should the cab ride take from CDG airport to our hotel in the Latin Quarter? How much will it cost, and should I get Euro's before I leave here in the states? P.S. we arrive around 6AM on a Tuesday

If you do a search here, you will find many, many posts on currency.

To summarize...you may get a few euros to get you from CDG to city, but use your ATM card thereafeter.

As a guess..probably in the 50 euro range for a cab

PS...there are other, cheaper,faster ways to get to central Paris from CDG. Another topic with many threads for your reading pleasure.

Depending upon traffic, expect to pay €45-€60 for a taxi. Since you'll be going into the city during rush hour, your fare will probably be on the high end.

How much luggage will you have? If you're packing light enough to schlepp your own luggage, there are tranportation options that are both cheaper and faster than a taxi.

Be sure to notify your credit card and ATM card providers that you will be in Europe. If you don't, a computer may freeze your accounts for what it thinks is fradulent use.

Why should you care how long a taxi takes to go from CDG to the QL? Your hotel is not going anywhere. But most likely you will not be able to check in until early afternoon anyway.

Never buy euros in the USA unless you are wasting someone else's money.

Instead of a taxi use the RER rail from CDG to QL if it is your money.

I think people might ask how long is the taxi ride so they'll have an idea of whether they might be 'taken for a ride'... if the average is 40 minutes but it takes over an hour for no obvious reason, then that might be suspicious.

I also interpret the question about getting euro before leaving the states as asking if the taxi requires cash payment. Do taxi drivers accept credit cards, or only cash?

Personally I never arrive with no Euros. Either I have leftover ones from previous trips or buy some before I leave. I don't like to arrive to a place without any. Plus, I get a pretty decent exchange rate at the place that I use here in L.A.
Also, it is important to know approx how long a taxi ride takes for reasons that Travelnut has stated. I've been in countries where I've told a driver to take me to a certain place and the driver has gotten the place mixed up and taken me someplace else. It just happened a year ago. Happy Travels!

Thank you every one this is helpful information. Yes a few of you have read my mind. I just like to have an an inkling of an idea regarding the time it should take so I don't get taken for a ride. Even if the hotel doesn't let us check in I prefer to get there have them hold our bags and walk around close by until we get situated. we will have one carry on each so it is probably fairly easy to take the train or bus. Thanks for the tip on the credit card and ATM. I will be sure to let the banks know.

We just recently took the RER from CDG to the St. Michel stop and then walked to our Blvd. St. Germain apt. The trains run very frequently and I believe it was a little over 8 euro per person. We (2 people) had 3 carryon bags and a large purse and had no problem managing our bags. We also used the RER going back to CDG. The only slight glitch we had was that our credit cards didn't work in the automated ticket machines and we had to get in line to buy our tickets at a ticket window. If your hotel isn't close to an RER stop, you could always take a cab from there.

A single ticket from CDG to Paris (€8.20) includes transfers to other RER lines and/or metro lines so long as you don't exit the system. You can easily get to within a few blocks of any hotel on that single ticket.

Go to www.ratp.fr to download and print a Metro/RER map for central Paris and a RER map that shows service to outlying zones, including CDG.

Hello jwalker1, I'll be arriving at CDG from the States on 11/1 and decided to book a shuttle with Blue Vans. I've used them several times and had good service, tho sometimes have had a wait but I like the fixed rate and don't have to worry about how long it takes, traffic wise and with the meter running. Also I'm too tired after a long overnight flight to think about the RER or Air France bus then a taxi or the metro. This works for me. I will have a friend meeting me in Paris and our cost for the Blue Van round-trip for 2 was 58 Euro, booked online.

As to Euro's, I travel quite a bit and try bring home a small amount, however, if I don't have any I just wait until I arrive at my destination airport and use my debit card. Enjoy your trip.

For 58 Euros why not take a taxi cab, I don't think you're saving any money taking a van.
