CDG Airport

I will be flying into CDG on Sept 20 transferring to NUE. I have a hour and 10 minute layover.
Will i make it? Will I go through customs? What tips do you have?

I have no idea what NUE is - I wish people would just say where they're going; not all of us have memorized the acronym for every airport in the world - but an hour and 10 minutes at CDG is absolutely gracious. I've made 45-minute connections.

It depends in part on which terminals you're flying into and out of. And whether your baggage, if you have any, is checked through.

No one can say if you'll go through Customs or not, because we don't know if you'll have anything to declare. If you're talking about going through Immigration, that's another story. I've spent as much as 45 minutes getting through those lines.

From where are you arriving into CDG?

Without knowing the above, one can only guess that you will still need to pass through immigration and security. You´ll pickup your luggage upon arrival at Nuremberg, again assuming it is checked to Nuremberg.

I would never plan a connection through any airport in the world with less than a 2 hour connect time.

Sorry about not being clear. I will fly into terminal 2E and fly out of 2C or 2D to Nuremberg, I called Delta and they couldn't say for sure. I think its on the same ticket. I will not have anything to declare.

If it's on the same ticket and you're just transiting through CDG, you will not have to go through customs or immigration.

That said, 70 minutes can be fine (I've made a 55-minute switch) and can suck if something funky happens at CDG, which is not an infrequent occurrence.

1. If you are not flying on a single ticket (or you are flying on two separate tickets), there is no way you will make a connection this tight - so I shall assume you are flying on a single ticket.

2. As you mention Delta, I shall further assume that your flight arrives at CDG from the USA. If this is the case, you will indeed pass through security and immigration (this is your first stop in Schengen Agreement country). Your bags will be transferred to Nuremberg where you will pick them up. You will not pass through customs. CDG has special security lanes and immigration windows reserved for those making connections but 1+10 is still very, very tight.

3. It´s really not about how fast someone has or can make a connection, it´s about realistic expectations for the majority of those making such a connection. While many people will successfully connect, there will be a good number who will not. Should you not make the intended outbound flight, it will be the responsibility of the airline to put you on the next available flight (which may or may not be the next scheduled fight).

We just passed through CDG a few days ago, on our way from LAX-CDG-Pisa. CDG is an awful airport for international transfers - poor signage, a tram, a long shuttle bus, holograms instead of people in information booths, priority lanes not marked, mass anxiety about missing planes, etc.

However, many others will be in the same situation as you. We ended up in the terminal with flights to NUE, and they did seem to be waiting for (and paging) connecting passengers.

Sarastro is right - you will have to pass through immigration and then security. We switched from 2E to 2G in about 1.5 hours. Halfway through the (long) immigration line there was an attendant checking boarding passes and letting those with tight connections enter another special line.

I would call Delta beforehand and ask for a priority pass when you board in the U.S.

You can do it. Keep your whits about you and don't panic.

BTW, I think that the agent might be wrong. I'm betting that your flight to NUE will leave from 2G. This will mean a shuttle bus from 2E. Look out for signs and ask one of the many people for help, if needed. The bus ride is a bit of a PITA, but on the bright side, the process at 2G is pretty painless and it is quick from door to plane. There are usually people at the front of the immigration and security lines that can help expedite your progress if your connection is tight - seek them out if needed. No need for a priority pass for security, they will scan your boarding pass and route you to the proper line.

Remember, Air France has little more interest in seeing you miss the flight than you do. Re-routes are expensive for the airline. They wouldn't schedule these connections if the majority of people didn't make them.

I believe "whits" refers to keeping your cool, staying focused, etc. I don't know the origin... it may be spelled as wits.
More generally, one's wits are one's intellectual powers of all types.

KeppieAngel: Carlux knows what "wits" are (I assume) -- It is the 'whits' s/he was questioning

"If it's on the same ticket and you're just transiting through CDG, you will not have to go through customs or immigration."

Not so. As Sarastro says, You will clear immigration in Paris and customs in Nuremberg. You do passport control at the first airport you enter Schengen and customs at your final destination.

"Will i make it?"

No telling. That is a VERY short connection at CDG IMO/IME. But if the travel gods are all smiling on you it is possible. If not - Delta will put you on the next available flight. Be sure to have a change of clothes in your carry on 'just in case'.

There is no such thing as "whits". Keeping one's wits about one means being sensible and practical - not running off mindlessly in all directions.

IMHO this is a tight connection at CDG - but if your flight is an early am one from the US you may come in early due to the prevailing tail winds. And if several flights don;t land at once getting through Immigration can be quick. On the other hand I have had it take more than an hour when a bunch of planes landed at once. Luck of the draw.

Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst (that is, make sure you know the next flights you would want to be on and definitely have a change of clothes in your carry-on.)

At this point, the OP probably doesn't give a whit for some of the responses.

After *unwhittingly* giving the OP a panic attack, we just realized we are in a similar tight-connection situation. We will be flying home tomorrow from Florence via CDG with an 80 minute 2G-2E connection. However, unlike our incoming flight, there seems to be an airside shuttle. Plus we're in business, so there should also be some sort of fast pass.

We were in business on our LAX-CDG as well, but that was the result of a last-minute upgrade (and not on our itinerary. If we had saved our boarding passes, we could have gone through the priority line, but sadly, we left them on the plane.
