CD players in rental cars
#3
Our two recent car rentals in Denmark and in France had CD players. When my daughter left her CD in the Danish rental, we received it the next week in the mail with a note from the people at the Avis desk in the Copenhagen airport, to our amazement.

For the last five years ar so every European rental we had had a CD player. Same in U.S. Tapes are so passe you can find only a limited assortment to purchase in stores.
When my cherished "Bob and Ray" went all CD I bought them all even though I duplicated some I had on tape.

In my experience, no. I've rented a car each of the last 3 years and none of them had a CD player, just tape decks. Maybe it is the class of car I rent - I usually get a basic compact. I rented each time with AutoEurope and they were able to tell me whether or not a CD player would be in the car. My most recent rental was in April 2005 and I rented a Alpha Romeo, 4-door hatch. Can't remember the model number.

I find that whichever I plan for - tape or CD, the car I rent inevitably has the opposite. During the past year though - they've all had CD players. (thank heavens, because in Germany, I've driven for hours with the radio on SCAN - just to get a song in English.)
