CC Charged Foreign Transaction Fees online booking at usairways.com!
 

BUYERS BEWARE! I recently received on my credit card (CC) bill a charge of $40.00 for "Foreign Transaction Fees" associated with the booking of two tickets USA-Europe. I used usairways.com (USA based company-- Maryland). I called the CC and the CHARGES WERE TAKEN OUT. The Customer Service Rep stated they realized this was not a foreign transaction, rather a foreign destination (irrelevant). I have been booking flights online to overseas destinations at least 3 times/year for the last 20 years and this is a first.

If booking online check your credit card bills. If it is not a foreign transaction, you should not be charged a foreign transaction fee.

You know it would be MUCH more helpful if YOU would tell us just WHO did this. If you can rant and rave about it then you can disclose who did it. Otherwise, forget it.

In what country was the charge processed? That is what triggers the foreign transaction fee by the credit card issuer.

I've heard of this happening on foreign carrier websites. Even if you're originating in the US, the charge may be processed in another country. But this is the first I've heard of this happening on a US carrier site.

Did you get the charge removed? Was it from the airline or your credit card? Perhaps you called the wrong place and should have called your card.

Reading and Comprehension is such an underestimated skill WOW!...sigh!

Regardless of credit card company, the point is CHECK for foreign transaction fees, whether they are there, legitimate or not. If I name a cc company, I would be establishing bias when the point is CHECK your credit card bill.

The main two companies that comprise the business online transactions for USAIRWAYS are based on MD (Salisbury) and Ohio (Dayton). My itinerary has a Point of Contact located in the Salisbury facility.

When you post on this site, it is sometimes similar to riding in the tumbril on the way to you-know-where.

Short changing ... one of the oldest forms of commercial scam. There is no downside on the part of the financial institutions in the US. If they "carelessly" over charged you, it is not illegal and all they have to do is to credit your account nicely and gain an atta boy point for being "responsive." If the consumer does not notice, the financial institution get to keep the money. Either way, it is a win for the financial institution.

Greg-- so in total agreement with you!! Many major companies subcontract the billing services to companies whom, so long as they are able to collect the proper amounts, they get to keep any surplus. That's where the scamming and greed comes in. In recent weeks,my husband and I have identified 3 bills with plus-up amounts (Terminix Pest Control, Sears Service Contract, and this Credit Card charge). All 3 were deducted after we called and complained. I imagine there is always the Mom & Papa that just "take it on the chin". Greed is sad and real.

I've never heard of this, that would be by computer as to the point of origin, that seems very odd. I don't know why you won't mention which credit card did that as that is the problem, it's the credit card that did it so if you are trying to warn others, that would have been the most useful piece of information.

I always check my credit cards for any charges, although I know some people just pay the bills.
