Caviar, anyone?

Hello from Istanbul,
I will post a report upon our return, but could someone tell us.. is it ok to bring caviar through US customs?

Thanks so much,

Lauri

Check the State Dept./Agricultural Inspection web site for prohibited items.

Be careful when buying caviar in Istanbul....make sure it is kept under refrigeration, for one thing. I would only buy from a reputable vendor there, or anywhere else.

It generally needs to be kept cold...that may be a problem in & of itself.

I think canned caviar is OK...

I usually buy red caviar cheap in Russian stores, never over $20/lb.

You can buy Caviar at Departure Hall Duty free of Istanbul Ataturk Airport. Just after passing the passport control. I imagine i it was forbidden they would warn. As they are closed & sealed there should be no problem. But to be sure better check within your countries customs regulations.
Happy Travelling

( mmmm I love Caviar )
