Cave Hotel in Cappadocia
 

If you stayed in a cave hotel in Cappadocia, what did you like and/or dislike about it? I've research extensively and many cave hotels sound GREAT. Help me decide! Doesn't have to be luxury, but do want a good bed. We are a couple in our late 50s and have travel tons. Let me know your experience. Thanks so much!!

We liked Esbelli Evi very much. The owner was relaxed and professional and unless Suha has changed his policy you must reserve directly with him Why? If he doesn't like your attitude he will not book you because he wants to keep a congenial atmosphere. One caution. If you have trouble with steps, it is not the place to stay. Suha has combined numerous properties to create the hotel and there can be much up and down just to get to your room.

One of our all time favorite hotels.

We stayed in the Local Cave House. People were helpful. The pool in August was wonderful. Not surprisingly the room was very humid.

We stayed at Serinn House, just down the road from esbelli evi. would highly recommend it. not all the rooms are cave rooms. very friendly place. Owner was very helpful

We stayed at the Kelebek Hotel. Many types of rooms including cave rooms (we stayed in a cave room). Fabulous views from our room (room 17). Staff was super friendly and very helpful. Food and drinks were very good at the small restaurant. Free Wifi. Loved the tours we took from the hotel. Great location. Walked to town and the surrounding areas several times.

I'll second the Kelebek...we actually had room 17 as well and would recommend it. The restaurant was very good and the staff was great.

We used them to arrange a balloon trip and were quite satisfied. If they are offering their 'organic breakfast' definitely take advantage of it. They basically take you on a tractor ride and short hike out to the family farm. It's a great trip and a nice breakfast. It was free when we went in 2012, but they were planning to start to charge for it at some point.

Another vote for the Kelebek and for the organic breakfast! We experienced this in spring 2013 and there was no charge at that time - however I would pay extra as it proved to be one of the highlights of our stay in Cappadocia. We skipped the balloon ride but got up early one morning and watched them from one of the patios at the Kelebek: magical.

Esbelli Evi is also one of our all time favorite hotels.

The staff was amazing, totally attentive without seeming pretentious. I usually do everything for myself, so when booking, I asked about several things and was told simply not to worry, when I got there everything would be taken care of.

I told them when our flight arrived. They signed us up for a shuttle which was waiting.

We asked for one of the least expensive rooms, but also said we were older and inquired about steps and carrying luggage. By the time we signed in, our luggage had been deposited in our suite that was so spacious, DH and I looked at each other and said, "Geez, we could live here."

It was very late and I asked what was near that was still open for food. They said settle in and relax. About half an hour later, they delivered one of the best meals we had on our trip. Breakfast was also excellent: fresh eggs, breads, fruits, etc.

I asked about car rental, taxis, etc. After discussing what we wanted to see, they got a car and driver and it was about the same as car rental. We used that three times.

We went in fall, so I did not care about a pool.

Anyway, wonderful place. I would return without question. Basically, tell them when you are coming and they will take care of everything.

We did the hot air balloon flight with Butterfly Balloons. They were great to work with and the flight was perfect.

All these posts reflect people's instinctive desire to go back to pre-stone age times when caves were the preferred abodes. :)

For those whose ancestral memory is shorter, they may even make one of the underground cities in cappadocia into a hotel -:)

We splurged and treated ourselves to the Royal Suite in the TASKONAKLAR Boutique Hotel.

It was one of the most lovely, and comfortable, hotel suites We have ever stayed in. The regular rooms were also very nice.

There are steps and stairs so, limited mobility would suggest finding another lodging. Otherwise, I recommend it highly. The breakfast was quite nice and the staff were extremely helpful. We loved it !

I wish I could be adopted into the family, frankly! The breakfast was nice, and they will make eggs for you to order if you need. Their rooms are luxurious, but for those allergic to a true cave, they also have some rooms that are mixes of cave and stone, and some are purely stone.

Iin 2001, we stayed in the Gamirasu Hotel in Ayvali, a very small town. The hotel had only been open for about a year, and it was an amazing experience staying there. It was not just that the proprietor and staff were warm and welcoming, but we also became part of the town fabric as we walked its one small main street! Our stay in that town still stands out as one of my favorite travel memories.

Oh, and it was a cave hotel, which made it very cool inside, even without a/c. And we were there in August.

Kelebec again. Loved it. Would return in a heartbeat.

Ooh, Kelebec looks beautiful -- that breakfast experience must be wonderful. If I were to go back again, I would definitely go there! The sophistication of the hotels have grown enormously since we went in 2001.
