Catamaran changes, Split to Hvar

Jadrolinija and Krilojet are the two ferry/catamaran companies that everyone has mentioned here for years that run the route between Split and Hvar Island. I have watched the ticket prices get higher and higher (now they have reached an insane 25 euros PLUS 5 euros extra for a suitcase on Jadrolinija) but there was always a commuter catamaran every day at a much lower price. I believe it is a mandate for the locals so they can get to the mainland for essential needs.

Yesterday I was looking at catamaran tickets and find that now, Jadrolinija is not even running this service all year (only from May 1 to the end of the season) and Krilo offering less catamarans out of season and nothing less than 25 euros. Then I remembered the new kid in town, TP Lines. I had seen their catamarans elsewhere (like Korčula) and last year, maybe even in 2024, I noticed them in Hvar Town,

TP Lines has now taken over the commuter catamaran service. Their prices for those catamarans are much, much lower. Like 300 hundred percent lower (6.40 euros.)

All three lines run many catamarans during the season for the hefty 25 euro price. Last year in early May, there were already sold out boats leaving Hvar. It is going to be worth it to book the cheap tickets in advance, But the problem is the commuter catamaran goes in the morning Hvar-Split and back in the afternoon, making a day trip to Hvar Town impossible for less than 50 euros per person. Solution - spend more than a day in Hvar.

Here is the website for TP Lines - https://www.tp-line.hr/en/
There is always the car ferry from Split to Stari Grad for only 5.90 euros per passenger (Jadrolinija) and commuter line catamarans to Jelsa and Stari Grad for 6.40 euros except in the season when it goes up to 10 euros (also Jadrolinija.)

There is a handy list of all the ferries and catamarans for every company on TP Lines webpage.

It does not seem there is much interest in Croatia on this forum these days, but hopefully this info will help someone. I did not use the catamaran last year so it is possible this is not news for 2026 but started in 2025.

Since we are on the subject of getting to Hvar, a footnote especially for people with a car who are coming from or heading south.

I am very fond of the car ferry from Drvenik to Sućuraj on the far eastern tip of Hvar. It is fast and it is cheap. You can get out and walk around for the short passage, but many people stay in their vehicle. It is a bit of a crazy road between Sućuraj and Jelsa (not for the squeamish and I would not try it at night) but just let all the crazy drivers go past and take it slow. I even drive down to this ferry from Split rather than taking one from there because between the wait to get on the Split ferry, the long passage (90 to 120 minutes) and then I have to drive to Hvar from Stari Grad anyway.. give me the open road, please.

It is another option, but only for those with a vehicle. Jadrolinija runs this service.

You should plan on arriving 45 minutes early, even more in the season because you are not guaranteed a spot. It is first come first served.

Thanks, rialtogrl!

nema problema kja

I made a mistake in the first sentence of my initial post. It is the catamarans to Hvar Town, that are charging 25 euros.

I will be in Croatia a lot this year. Maybe our paths will cross.

Unrelated comment:

Hvar was the first place I'd ever seen people lounging on the beach with no clothes. My girlfriend and I were the ONLY people on that beach in bathing suits. We had a lot of back and forth with each other and, finally decided to take our tops off. It felt very odd, and especially gruesome when a large German man kneeled down besides us to chat...you can imagine our view.

Those were the days when there were few or no hotels...older ladies met the ferry holding signs, in German, offering rooms to rent. If I remember this correctly, the signs said 'zimmer frei."
Thank you for the personal flashback!!

Remember it well. I also remember staying in a hotel (one of the few) with grass outside and the staff were cutting the grass with scythes which requires an incredibly sharp blade.

Very good info rialtogrl, thanks!

"It does not seem there is much interest in Croatia on this forum these days"
That''s true for all countries. It seems that this forum will sligtly die.

Nema problema neckervd. You are always so helpful with transportation (and other) questions on this forum. I actually thought you would have already known about this change! Respect! :)
