Catalonia part of "Barcelona/Catalonia" Trip - Seeking Advice!
In April I will be spending 5 full days (not including arrival/departure days) in Spain with a good friend, focusing on Barcelona (3 days) and looking to spend 2 full days outside of Barcelona - Girona and also ??. My initial instinct says stay at 1 hotel in Barcelona for the whole time, and take 2 day trips out of the city. But perhaps we should consider a split-stay trip? We are set on our plans for 3 days in Barcelona, and we know we want to see Girona What would you do? |
Girona is fine, the bike paths are magic while the old town will enthral, you might take the train north to Figueres for the Dali.

I would not split the stay. There is a lot to keep you busy in Barcelona, with one day trip to Girona, but if you really want to do a second day trip, consider Tarragona. It is a beautiful, historic town right at the sea and has good connections to Barcelona.

I agree with rialtogrl! I had 5 very full days in Barcelona itself and did not see everything that I would have liked to see in that delightful city. You can decide once there whether you have time for a day trip or not. And I'll throw Montserrat into the mix of options. You might find some helpful information in my trip report.

I wouldn't move hotels in only 5 days. Besides, I presume you have to fly out of Barcelona, right? So that wastes more time if you move to another city. I don't see anything wrong with day trips by train if you want.

Very good idea to plan the one day trip to Girona, and leave the second day trip as an option to be put on hold if we decide on another day in Barcelona. Thanks all! Oh the reason I have not put Montserrat into the mix is that I have been there once on an earlier quick trip to Barcelona. Wonderful. Even heard the boys' choir perform. So, won't go on this trip. |
