We've been to the sanctuary a few times but our favorite Roman cat is Nerone. He is a one-eyed black stray and lives in the Piazza Montecitorio, usually hanging out near the entrance to the hotel there. He's very sweet and graciously accepted any treats we offered him as we came and went from our hotel.
While there, I did notice a Roman woman who left food for him as she passed through the Piazza so I was happy to know that he seems to be well cared for. The ladies at Torre Argentina know him as well as there was a photo of him on the wall the last time we were there.

What a city of cat-lovers Rome seems to be! Last time, we stayed at L'Ambasciatore, and a dozen or more strays lolled about the front courtyard at all times, indolent and insolent at the same time. A young woman on the hotel staff came out to feed them in the morning from a can.

Oops! It was actually La Residenza where the contemptuous cats hung out. They gave me withering looks when I wanted to take their picture. I thought, "I'm forty years old and still unable to command the respect of a single member of the animal kingdom."
